How do I remove my starter?
« on: June 07, 2009, 07:09:30 AM »
Hi all,

I have searched, but don't see any specifics after several pages of results for "remove starter."

Anyway...'74 CB750.  I've got my starter cover off and the starter is loose.  I've moved it back in it's spot but cannot get it to come out.  Do I need to remove the alternator cover and remove teh gear?

Can someone walk me through the proceedure of removing the starter?  I think I'm missing something OR just being cautious as I don't want to screw something up due to the fact that I'm unfamiliar and inexperienced with the bike.

I genuinely appreciate your help,
Clem

I'm not sure if your setup is the same as mine, but mine's a 650.  To remove my starter, I take off the starter cover, then the left engine side cover- the cover over the oil pump and front sprocket.  There you'll see (if the 750 is the same as the 650 in that respect) wire routing for the stator, but also wire routing going to your starter.  There are a couple bolts holding the starter in, those come out, then you should be able to pull the starter straight out toward you.

Hope that helps.

Thank you and the person who posted that tip very much!

And thanks for the patience with a new guy...I'm not sure how I didn't find that...but I tried.

Thanks again all!
