A running 1979 cb 650 for a non running but complete 1974 cb750? I have a chance to do this, but I am unsure. Any advice?

Its been sitting for several years. It turns over fine and has no rust in the tank.

Well, are you a gambler?  How bad do you want a 74 750?  We really do not have much info to go on here to give you any real wise advise.  Will the guy give you a few days to look it over and see if you can get it running.  Or at least be able to diagnose it a bit?  See if you can find out some history on it...like why is he selling it?  When was it run last?  Is there a title?  Good luck with it...

I guess what I really want to know are opinions about the '74 750 as a bike in general. I have been wanting a 750 for a while and am not afraid to take on a project. I do know it is a lot easier to find pieces for the 750 in the aftermarket.

Of course I would not trade without at least a couple hours of (very) hands on inspection.

Based on your statement I say go for it.  As you can see by this forum the CB750K has stood the test of time.  For one to have any real major problem it had to be beaten and not maintained.  A real plus is that it is all there.  I really like the the 74 too.  Very nice looking bike.  Can you get us a few pics?

Is the k4 green? Original paint?  That goes along way for me. I just searched Mo CL for it and didnt find it. ;D  Do you have any pics? Id trade for it if it was a stock bike in good cosmetic shape. I too also want a 750 so I am biased. If its been sitting outside for several years I would think twice.

Yea, that would be my only hesitation on this ?  U might want to look for a cheap beater car 4 transportation. The 750 is a great machine. But first, you have to get it running and then make sure that u go over it and fix all that needs to be addressed. Once u have it up to par....you will have a Very reliable mode of transport. But unless u live in paradise, there are always those days of very bad weather. The kind u don't want to be on a bike in.

hard to say, the 650 engine was still an sohc and therefore... not ugly as hell and still a fun bike... i'm not a huge fan of the look of the 650, but sometimes it's a lot nicer having a running bike than a project

I need to change that sig. line, I have since bought a small truck to beat around in, untill I get my 58 running again.

I will be doing all repair work my self

The bike is kinda maroon in color, not sure if original

I am going to look at it tommorow, I will take many tools, and then, I will probably still be not able to decide  ???

The CB750K4 Four was sold in 1974 and was available in one of three colors: Flake Sunrise Orange, Freedom Green Metallic, or Boss Maroon Metallic. The gas tank stripes were white, gold and black. The side covers were smaller than the K0 model and there were no slots on the leading edge. The speedometer showed increments of 20 (i.e., 20, 40, 60, 80, etc.). The upper forks were chrome. The white tank pinstripe was wider than the K3 model. The headlight shell was black. The taillight and side reflectors were larger than the K1 model. There was a two-throttle cable system (pull open and pull closed). The exhaust system was a 4-into-4. The engine was a 736cc SOHC 2-valve dry sump inline 4 cylinder linked to a 5-speed transmission and chain drive. The serial number began CB750-2300001.

Actually the speedometer was in increaments of 10 with 5mph notches in between. Top indicated would be 145mph
