K0 gauge plates
« on: June 07, 2009, 03:24:00 PM »
I made these K0 gauge plates for a friend of mine who wasn't happy with what he had. Do you think folks here might be interested?

Lots of gauge faces yes - but lots of K0 faces? I don't think so. Like I said all later years can just add a stick on vinyl applique and you're done. These need the blue-green lettering to show through the black face at night - no easy!.
Anyway - no biggy. I just thought I'd ask. I have tons of other projects to entertain myself.

You said this where?

Any black faced gauge will need a light colored marking for them to be visible at night if the illumination source is inside the gauge....

Something super secret about your Blue green?

Just asking....

What would you charge for a set of these?

No idea mystic. Just thought I'd see if there was any interest other than sarcasm in my "super secret" black-blue-green K0 faces. Doesn't look like it. No problemo. I'll move on to other projects.

Well, I'd be interested in more info on these, personally.  I have a set of K0 instruments that I'd maybe like to restore someday, but the cost of new faces is prohibitive.  Yours look great for sure.  You re-using the old indicator lamp jewels?

I think what he's saying is the light illuminates through the numbers from the back where as on later ones the light illuminates around the sides to light the face. (maybe)

Sounds right to me.

Yeah that's pretty close. I guess you'd have to be a K0 guy to get it. I'm not but I can appreciate how cool that first years gauges were. All the other year gauges are trivial to make because you can just stick the applique on the old plate. I'm making my K1 plates from scratch too so I can use my own jewels. Why you say? Because I'm waiting for my smokn K1 to be delivered and my scrambler should be here this week. After that I'll have my hands full I'm sure and no time for gauge faces 8).

Keep in mind the KO did not have the red line on the speedo.  Below are my KO gauges.  I believe the red speedo line started with the K1 model.  Click the pic to enlarge...

Yes I know. I keep getting the K1 and K0 mixed up. I believe the K1 was the only year with that 70 mph line. The ones I have do not have the red/orange line.
