rearsets for a 74 550
« on: June 08, 2009, 12:59:17 AM »
I have read just about every, well no every, but well over 4 or 5 hours on rearsets for ideas.

I have a bike that is worth around 1000 so I do not want to invest 300 in rearsets, but I need to do something because it is uncomfortable to ride long distances.

I am 6'4" and the stock pegs are like hell, especially on the freeway. Like a few other people, I throw my legs on the rear pegs and it's quite comfortable. I like the idea of flipping the shifter around and using the rear pegs as the drivers, with the gp style shift pattern. However, what are my options as far as the brake goes?

Has anyone fabbed something up to make the back brake useable with feet on the rear pegs? or does anyone have some original ideas here that I have not read in the last couple days?

Ohio racers idea is good, but it does not locate the rearsets far enough back for me. I am really liking the rear pegs, or atleast their positioning for me.

I do have some money to spend, but funds are limited.

I have thought about buying a brake lever from a newer bike off feebay, and somhow fitting it on the frame near the pegs and linking it to the back drum.

 What about this set?

 http://cgi.ebay.com/Universal-Yoshimura-Rearsets-Suzuki-Yamaha-Honda-Rvf_W0QQitemZ220429247426QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Motorcycle_Parts?hash=item33529b63c2&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A30

Wow, I wonder if the real Yoshimura Co. will take issue with them using the name on a repro part?

Look around on ebay, there is a lot of knock offs coming from Thailand and Hong Kong.
The same seller has stuff labled as "Brambo" and show the items sitting on a "Brembo" decal/box. (Grips with "Brembo" logo made in them).
I guess as long as no one complains, they are free to sell their knock offs, as Ebay hasnt/wont/isnt going to do anything about these shady sellers.

Finding rearsets from any other bike is easy. You will have to fabricate a bracket to make them fit. I used 2003 gsxr750 rearsets. and had to fab up mounts for them. Welded to the frame. Good luck.
I dont see why you couldnt use the stock passenger peg hole to mount a universal set too. Might be too far back though.

WOW thanks guys that really helped. I was looking at old gsxr sets, but they were going for over 100 and that seems like too much for a used/ damaged set.

These are the right price. I never searched internationally before, so I never found any of these before.

Ok...Does anyone know where to get the linkage cheap as well? the elbow joints?

I found some from dennis kirk. anyone know of anywhere else?
