I have a theory that the worse off the economy is the more likely people are to get butt hurt about things. Or just be straight d!ck heads... weird.

which is odd, you'd think the tougher things get the more likely people would stop getting their panties in a twist over trival stuff and prioritize on the real issues. maybe things aren't bad enough.

we'll see when the next depression comes in about 8-10 years from now.

Thanks for all the replies, I think I pushed a hot button on this one. Basically the entire world (or more correctly a few people spread out over the entire world) has this stupid overly sensitive problem, "I'm offended that you called me or my people a (fill in the blank)"

If that's the case how on earth does "Family Guy" or "South Park" my 2 most favorite TV shows, manage to stay on the air? They can say anything they want, and they do. There is no topic left untouched and that's why I love watching them. They have to offend a lot of people. I guess the difference is, you don't have to watch it, if you don't like it then change the channel.

I wouldn't be so worried about it being a hot button.

90% of what was posted was me and everyone else being a bunch of jackasses.

But yes the USA needs a swift kick in the ass on this issue.

It's a problem in Canada too. And it also annoys the crap out of me. A school on the east coast has stopped playing our national antem every morning because it 'offends those of other cultures' because it has references to God. A family had actually complained about this. If you don't like it, go back to your country, listen to your national anthem, and risk having your life, and the lives of your loved ones taken away by civil unrest. Or, shove it and stay here.

What i can't work out is that we live in a democratic society where majority rules so why is it every time some minority clown complains the friggin laws are changed.......somethings not quite right about that..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Its kinda like watching a TV show that you don't like and then complaining about it, IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT THEN DON'T WATCH...... ???

Majority does rule.  UNLESS a judge decides otherwise.  That's how the law works.  It is "interpreted"by a judge and if he thunk that you can't fart in public, well then, you had better pucker up buttercup.

You are perfectly right , and take a look that somehow it is the democracy kicking itself. or example you have plenty of muslims that immigrated to other countries complaint about lack of gov funds for building mosques, or complaining about anything else, yet somehow no christians can be heard from muslim countries. Is that because they get full gov support for building churches? No, that's because in non-democracies nobody gives a damm. I just wonder how far the democracy will go that way, before it will will collapse, because all minorities are using it to their own selfish purposes (like unions for example).
And you know what's funny? The spell checker tried to correct every "muslim" and "christian" in this post to make it written with capital in front. And yet I'm an atheist and couldn't;t give a damm about it (yet, it didn't want to put capital in "atheist". That's even more funny, and politically incorrect  ;D )

I personally don't care, just use common sense.

P.S. when i read post about indians native americans first nations whatever else you want to call those people - in Europe they are still called Indians... There are even mock-up tribes dressing and all, and they call themselves "indians". People are funny....

Still, good topic for heated discussion, but it's gonna achieve absolutely nothing.  :D

Where wifey teaches gets calls all the time from far away
"do gooders" who complain that the school mascot is "Chiefs".
They are told, "this school is 100% Native American" (on a reservation).
They want to say "kiss my brown ass", and we don't give a shat that you want a change,  but are polite.
And they are native.
Most don't mind being called "Indian".
One or two "activists" insist on "Native".

I agree, the fact that we have become too PC but I think that the minority is afraid of the fact that they can be pushed around by the majority. Prejudice will never go away so people sometimes think everyone is out to get them. I must have missed the analogy though. Human rights is not like watching T.V. Should Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Gandhi have "changed the channel?"

“That the desires of the majority of the people are often for injustice and inhumanity against the minority, is demonstrated by every page of the history of the whole world” - John Adams

As opposed to "Gas Station Attendent - petroleum transfer technician" but I think she is just being PC! :D

While in college my nickname was Canuck, this was before the pc crowd took over.

Vermont wouldn't allow me to put it on my license plate! I wrote them and pointed out it is the name of a hockey team, but no go.

I know most of you are from the States, but I'm sure you all can appreciate this:

A Letter to the Editor (excellent letter)

So many letter writers have explained how this land is made up of
immigrants. May be we should turn to our history books and point out
 to
people why today's Canadian is not willing to accept the new kind of
 immigrant any longer.

Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to
Canada, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in
 Halifax
and be documented. Some would even get down on their hands and knees
 and
kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support
 their
new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a
 primary
rule in their new Canadian households and some even changed their
 names to
blend in with their new home. They had waved good bye to their birth
 place
to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to
help their children assimilate into one culture.

Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labour
 laws to
protect them. All they had were the skills, craftsmanship and desire
 they
had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.

Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out.
 Canadians
fought along side men whose parents had come straight over from
 Germany,
Italy, France, Japan, Czechoslovakia, Russia,Sweden,Poland and so many
other places. None of these first generation Canadians ever gave any
thought about what country their parents had come from. They were
Canadians fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan. They
 were
defending the Freedom as one people. When we liberated  France, no-
 one in
those villages was looking for the Ukrainian-Canadian or the
German-Canadian or the Irish-Canadian. The people of France saw only
 Canadians.

And we carried one flag that represented our country. Not one of those
immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country's
 flag
and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a
 disgrace to
their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants
truly knew what it meant to be a Canadian. They stirred the melting
 pot
into one red and white bowl.

And here we are in 2009 with a new kind of immigrant who wants the
 same
rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a
different set of rules, one that includes a Canadian passport and a
guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. I'm sorry,
 that's not
what being a Canadian is all about. Canadians have been very open-
 hearted
and open-minded regarding immigrants, whether they were fleeing
 poverty,
dictatorship, persecution, or whatever else makes us think of those
aforementioned immigrants who truly did ADOPT our country, and our
 flag
and our morals and our customs. And left their wars, hatred, and
 divisions
behind. I believe that the immigrants who landed in Canada in the
 early
1900s deserve better than that for the toil, hard work and sacrifice
 those
legally searching for a better life. I think they would be appalled
 that
they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country
 flags,
fighting foreign battles on our soil, making Canadians change to suit
their religions and cultures, and wanting to change our countries
 fabric
by claiming discrimination when we do not give in to their demands.

Its about time we get real and stand up for our forefathers rights,
 we are
CANADIAN Lest we forget it!!! I am a Native of this Country & proud
 of it!

            NO MORE POLITICAL CORRECTNESS
NO MORE not saying CHRISTMAS in stores and our schools!
             MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!
I Want my Canada of birth BACK !!!
