One time, 4 of us were riding back from Sturgis..
We ended up in 2 groups of 2, I ended up with Richard the Proffesor, an Art and Sculpture instuctor at our local college-of-knowledge.
It got fairly crappy out for mid-Aug, rained a lot of the day, got into Livingston around dark and it was like 58 degrees, so we grabbed a room.
After a while we hit the bar downtown , and found the other 2 guys, they had been in there a while..
And they said, guess what happened, so we were like WTF..

Well they said there was a dude sitting at the bar, and they were off the side at a table. I presume he glanced at them a few times maybe.. anyway after some time he left.
And the bartender came over with a round, and they asked him why?
He said, the guy sitting at the bar bought you a round. They said, well we dont think we know him..

and the bartender said, Oh, maybe you do, his mame is Peter Fonda, and he would like you to have a drink on him!
Man, I always thought that was so cool..

I have had many pretty good experiences in my many crossings of Montana, people are pretty good there..
Maybe that guy was telling you about the newbie treatment, ya know a lot of places they want to see the stuff you are made of, before the decide to warm up to you.. things are a bit different in Montana...
