What the heck (fixed) I guess
« on: June 08, 2009, 05:29:17 AM »
(The what the heck series of posts has to do with the bike not starting when hot...runs fine turns over good just wont start)not sure if this makes sense to anyone....I was going to put the pulser coil i got off ebay on sunday. So I took it to my grandfathers shop. When I got there I started to get ready to change  the oil and he told me to chock it and then try and start it....didnt start then he said unchoke it and try to start ...boom it started....Road it all day stoping starting and it was hot out. What would cause this condition or is this just the nature of the beast. Havent heard this for fix for the hot start issues.

Sounds like it's too rich.... or not. A warmed up engine doesn't require choke to start. Because it's already warmed up.
No.

well it actually starts with no choke....you have to choke it and turn it over once...it is almost like a secret 2nd key...I would like to fix it runs great...but it would be nice to start it with no choke.

flick the throttle a few times to prime some fuel then start with no choke.....
Marti, I want you to know, I like you an awful lot, but guys have said far less and left wearing their drinks on their shirts.

is this a carb issue that would make you do these funny rain dances to make it start or something else.

Any old machine is going to have it's quirks.  Having to close the choke for a second or flick the throttle before starting isn't a very big deal.  I'm not saying these bikes can't be made to run like new again, but unless you're willing to spend that much money and time to get it to new condition it isn't going to happen, and you'll just drive yourself crazy trying to fix every little quirk.  Besides, as long as something isn't a huge pain in the ass or keeps you from being able to ride, things like this are what add a little extra charm to owning an old bike.

I agree with you totally. And everytime I am about to sell it and buy something new she fires up she gives me a great days ride yesterday and makes it hard to think about getting rid of old tebore.....Having an old bike is fun when it runs...painful when it doesn't. But the way mine looks I cant believe how many people ask or talk about it....I have no tags on it so people have no idea what it is. They also think it is way older.

rained last night couldnt try the wrist flick deal....I think that would add some cool flavor to the bike. it is better than choking and turning it over then unchoking starting. Soon it will have me saying magic passwords and a little dance to get it started.

What you do depends on what's causing the problem.

You.. tune the carbs. Search for sparkplug readings, and jetting.
There's a crapton of info here on how to do both.
No.
