i am thinking of buying a 78 hondamatic 450, but the taillight post need to be replaced. does anyone know how hard it is to find them and if they are expensive?

Are you sure that you don't mean a '78 CB400A Hondamatic?

If you are talking about the turn signal post.

These are still available OEM from Bike Bandit at around $18 -$20 bucks ea.

I replaced one of mine a couple of years ago.
