Well got my forks and tripple stree yesterday in the mail but have a few questions. The for seals look alright but want to change the oil. What weight oil should I use? How much should I add? Also would it hurt the forks to sand blast the srust off and polish them out. Been hitting them with 1300 grit sand paper but its taking forever spent 45 min on one shock and rust is still their. Anyone got sugestion on getting rid of rust on fork tubes? Gonna sand blast a few parts friday at my dads shop so I figure I would ask before I mess them up.

Is it just the section above the the maximum compressin of the tube?
If so the do what you must! Never sandblast where it enter the seal! It will never be right again if you blast it!
I use 3m scotchbrite pads to remove any rust discoloration from mine! Start with a red or green then move to a finer pad! Its time consuming but the results are awsome!
If you do it this way roll the forktube while ppolishing it up and down ( eneter sexual enuendo here). The cross patterns will almost vanish when you get to the end and help keep any oil going right thru the seals. Was taught this from an old honda mechanic neighbor.
Done it to 2 sets of forks and have had excellent results!
I ended up painting the portion above the maximum compression line for extra rust protection! From About 1/2 inch above actually.
Enjoy

Yep, if you have rust where the seal meets on compression of the fork you better just buy a new fork tube. If it is further up and you have an early model K then you could just replace the full fork boot and voila, no more visible rust.

Yea the rust is where the tripple tree is that whole area. Its coming off but taking its time. I just can't wait to get them clean and polish the forks out realy good.
