What's in a Muffler? (Jardine 4-2) 350F
« on: June 02, 2009, 10:58:57 PM »
When I shake one of the two Jardine mufflers I recently required, I can hear something clanking back and forth a little bit. It's certainly something larger and less accidental than carbon deposits. I've never had these on a bike so I cannot comment on whether or not this is audible while revving.

Is this something I should look into before cutting my rusty stock mufflers off and installing?

It is common on old mufflers, that some parts of the diffuser rust off and gives you the rattling noise. Not sure of the type you have, but if it is old - thats my guess.

Ah, that sucks. Is it fixable?

I have no experience fixing it. If budget is low, I guess you could find another used set, but if you can - spend the money on a new set. Getting used set, they might look nice on the outside, but you will never know if or how much rust on the inside.

Yeah, I was thinking I could sell these on feeBay for half of what I would pay for a set of MiVV mufflers, and I'd rather have the 4-4 anyway.

drill the rivet out......take a metal bar or  and put it in the one end.  slap the stick on the ground in turn forcing the baffle out.  it will slide out with a couple hits.  there you go.  straight pipes.   no baffle.  no worries.

I would, but I have ear problems and something that loud would destroy me.

have some old jardine mufflers on my 350f too. I replaced the old rotted baffles with replacement baffles from mac (around $35 a piece). Had to do a little hacksawing to make em fit though. Wrapped them with some fiberglass packing and they sound great.

Ah, no way! That's good to know. Can you link me to what you ordered?

Thanks!

You have to call mac directly at 1-800-367-4486 and ask them for replacement baffles for the CB350f flare tip mufflers. The part number for the mufflers is 001-0411.
