350F under-the-seat starter switch
« on: June 09, 2009, 12:34:01 PM »
I'd like to replace the non-working handlebar starter switch (wire is cut outside of the harness) with a under the seat starter switch. Searching has led me to the fact that some of the CB's route headlight power through the starter switch, some don't. From what I can read on the schematic, the 350 does not. My question :

Is this correct?
Is it just a matter of a switch between the yellow/red and black from the solenoid and a power wire (black)?
And could someone point out a part from Rad Shack or the like that would do the trick? (hopefully one that looks cool ;)

Thanks for the help!

Are you talking the key switch (main power) or the starter button?  I don't know the 350 that well, maybe they are one and the same.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

The starter button from the R handlebar is what I'd like to bypass.

Does your kill switch work or are those wires cut also?

The kill switch does work (current is reaching the coils).

That's exactly what I was trying to say. Thanks for clarifying.

So, would this be the proper setup:
A SPST Momentary switch with the black (power) wire from the harness and the black from the solenoid connected to one of its terminals, and the yellow/red wire from the solenoid connected to the other terminal?

Thanks again for the help guys.

You want a normally open switch with an momentary on when pushed.

something like this

http://www.amazon.com/Moroso-74120-Button-Starter-Switch/dp/B000CON4MU

you really don't need something that heavy duty unless you plan on nixing the solenoid.
