AMF for a while; Divorce pending.
« on: June 09, 2009, 05:47:20 PM »
As the wife was walking out the door yesterday to embark on her business trip, she told me "This week while you're off (Wed is my B-day so I took some days off) you should find yourself a lawyer 'cause when I get back I'm getting me one."
Pretty much sums it up, doesn't it? It really wasn't a surprise though. I knew it was coming.
I have already sold my 550K project bike and still have many more things to get rid of.
I'll be listing some of them in the appropriate are of the forum soon.
The items for sale though is NOT the purpose of this post. I just don't want everyone to miss me. ;D ;D
Actually, I don't mind if my "liberal friends" miss me. Now there is one less Conservative to try to
sell your agenda to!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D 8)
I will return someday 'cause a 550K is one of my must-have vintage bikes.

less important than real life but not unimportant: can ya maybe "sell" a bike on the sly to a friend? i know folks who have done similar things.

again, best of luck... from a "traditionalist."  ;D

Good luck to you. If she's talking 2 lawyers then she is not seeking an amicable divorce. Take what you can while it's still half your's and you still have the right to all of it. Otherwise it will all belong to her and both of the attornies.

Happy Birthday FWIW. Buy you a hooker as a present from your soon to be ex.

There's still the Open Forum to vent on....

Dude, that sux about the missus (or not depending on how you really feel). It seems like in the last couple of years almost all of my friends are going through this very same thing.  :-\

Not sure if there are kids to complicate things but good luck getting it all sorted. I agree about selling a bike or 2 to buddies for a couple of bucks (literally 2 dollars!) and then once it is settled you can buy it back.

Wow, so much for trying to keep the scumbag lawyers out of the dealings, eh?
First thing she tells you to do is get a lawyer, well... at least she gave you that courtesy.

Wow, that sux.  No first-hand experience here, but if she tipped her hand and told you to get a lawyer, I'd be getting the most aggressive shark out there if I were you...

Do unto others before they do it unto you...  Isn't that the golden rule of divorce lawyers?

i was gonna post something to the same effect as all the others, until i read your last few lines...
with remarks like that i can see where you probably pissed her off one too many times.
i may be liberally minded, but i've never had an agenda or pushed one, so you can shove your comment right back where you got it from.

Heffay, I swear I don't get you at times. There's been alot of talk lately around here about people with 'thin skin' and your comment pretty much tops it.  I don't see where he called you out personally or that he was being dead serious, so why the offense? I just don't get it.... ??? ???

Dude, I know it sucks getting divorced.  Just try to believe that in a few months or so, when things settle in, you'll probably be MUCH HAPPIER than you were in a bad marriage.

If she gave you a heads-up on the lawyer thing, maybe you can talk to her about using a mediator(s) instead?  They don't charge as much, and they can't go to court and fight, so they don't really have an interest in dragging things out and making things ugly.  Lawyers love to make you angry so you can fight more in court and rack up the big bills.

Maybe, if she's still reasonable, you guys can work something out before you even go to the mediator.  Then just get it written up and get it over with quick.  Much less painful that way.  Once the lawyers are involved, they can simply blame their lawyer for all the lies, deception and unfairness.  Rarely do they have the decency to tell their lawyer to stop being a piece of #$%*.

Oh, some more advice:  don't fight over anything that a judge wouldn't do anyway.  Just say, "nope, that isn't going to happen" when she asks for something that is totally unreasonable.  If she persists, then let the mediator tell her what they've seen in the many cases they've seen.

If she won't be reasonable and work something out with you, then you've got to realize that you've got a war on your hands.  You can't be soft.  Don't ever think she's your friend again.  Don't get sentimental or she will take advantage of you.  If she'll be reasonable, then consider yourself lucky.

Good luck, man.

Inline4,

You've got to be careful with hiding stuff or selling stuff for less than fair market value.  Judges know that people try this, and they just order appraisals and payments of the appropriate amounts.

Your best bet is to just pay your half, get the hell out fast, and go live yourself a better life.

Frankly, since your wife is going away on a business trip, it sounds like she just might have a pretty good paying job, so you might not have to pay alimony.  She might have kept up her side of the bargain throughout the marriage, so 50/50 split might not be too bad for property division, either.  Hey, at least your wife has a job.  That puts her light years ahead of my X.  For your sake, I hope I'm reading into this correctly.

Good luck, man.
