Project Driveway
« on: June 07, 2009, 01:24:35 PM »
The old driveway was in sad shape.  Large cracks all over and the surface was almost completely chipped off, so I decided to have it redone and then move the fence line to surround the driveway and make it part of the back yard.

Here's the progress so far:  The old concrete was removed, new fence posts put in, and the new driveway poured and almost finished before I left for work at 3pm last Wednesday.  These guys work quick! :)  I then spent all day Thursday moving sections of the original fence to the new posts and building an 8' gate to allow car and motorcycle access (mostly motorcycle).  The cars live on the front driveway most of the time.

Still to be done:

Finish removing the old fence posts and digging out their concrete anchors.
Dig out the tree stump next to the shed and fill in the hole.
Install 12" cement pavers around the shed, and lay down sod on the bare sections.

After all this is done I'm contemplating epoxy coating the garage floor, but I'm not sure about that yet.  It's in good shape, but really old and has soaked up a lot of oil and other chemicals over the decades, so it would take a lot of cleaning and scrubbing to prepare it for coating.  Not to mention moving everything out of the garage and then back in when it's finished.  We'll see.

Now if it will just stop raining/hailing I can get back out there and finish this! >:(

One of the best things about projects like this are the new tools you get to buy for yourself! ;D

Looks good Gordon. I'll make sure to not show this to the wife, if you know what I mean. ::)

Thanks!  I really don't feel like working on it all day again, but I want to get it finished.  I can't let my son out there to play for now because of all the random things he could hurt himself on.  Those old posts are buried deep and each have about 100lbs of cement attached to the bottom.  My back is killing me!

Here's what the place looked like when we bought it a little over 3 years ago:
