decided to do the last bit of fabrication and weld up a tray that fits under the seat hump to house the lithium battery and all the electronics, also some more bodywork on the seat and tank to get it ready to paint

Almost ready for paint, spent the day sanding the frame and decided to french in an 1157 LED light as the brake light into the rear of the seat cowl...used an old turn signal from an isuzu pickup truck i had lying around and chopped the reflector portion and riveted it to the under seat pan and drilled out the seat so the light could be seen through...pretty excited how it turned out...stay tuned for more...

wow, this is just great stuff. I love the idea of using the back of a tank for your seat. the oil tank is too much. way to go!

I may steal your idea for my next seat.

thanks for the love, I may make a mold of this seat out of fiberglass for the people that have been asking me for one, maybe charge $100 bucks for the seat, another $100 for an upholstered pan???...just an idea...but steal the idea, i stole it from someone else anyways....the oil tank i hadnt seen on a cb750 before, i got that idea from my buddies sr500....anyways stay tuned for more pics soon...just had to weld on a new petcock on my tank cause the old one was in the wrong spot.. the bubbly welded area was the filling in on the old petcock....harder than i thought, the new one came out ok though

No!  I like your seat the way it is.  Your bike would look less rugged if you went the racer look.  But if you do get rid of it, I may be interested in buying it.   ;)

Interesting stuff in this thread.  But did you consider using aluminum instead of steel for the oil tank and seat?  just wondering.  And sorry if I missed it, but to fill the oil, you basically have to remove the gas tank?

By the way, Hopterfixer has a thread in the project section where he makes a seat from a gas tank.  His entire thread is solely about making his seat.  It looks great too.

i had to use steel for the oil tank because it is structural...it is the new backbone and aluminum wouldnt be strong enough...the seat had to be steel because i used an old gas tank....plus im not experienced working with aluminum and haven't practiced welding aluminum yet, maybe in the future....thanks for the pos comments, painting everything as we speak so stay tuned for pics

and yea to fill the oil you have to remove the gas tank, but i have a different mounting system for the tank that makes it easy to do...the front mount is original but the rear mount is a bolt accessed from underneath,,,that way i could mount the new seat flush against the tank...

You should put a link to your build thread in your signature (like I did) so people can easily find it in the future.  Someday, someone will see your bike in your avatar and want to see more, but as time goes by, these project threads tend to get lost in the 24 pages we currently have.  Putting a link in your signature gives a really easy way for others to see your work.  If you want any help doing this, let me know.
