Might give in and go back to the black wall look since everyone is getting rid of them anyway....Ill see how it looks and paint them on agian after I wear the tires a while. I got this price from a local guy....what you think of these tires and this price ...I have read some pretty positive reviews on these .

the tires are $108 + 70 to install = $178
Shinko 230 Tour Master Tire SET 100/90-19 & 130/90-16 black walls
how about these...when and how much  and how much for the complete install

oh yeah on a 1980 cb650....

Im thinking about starting to use it for my 25 mile highway commute I was gonna get a bigger bike but dont need another payment...at least till the right deal comes or this bike after a couple commutes proves itself worthy. I have only been on the highway for shorter stretches 10 miles or so.

I picked these Shinkos up for about $118 shipped and had the local Honda dealership mount and balance them for $25/tire.

I've put about 800 miles on them so far and I have zero complaints when it comes to ride, handling, and traction.

Oh yeah, I pulled the rims and took them in myself I'm sure it was quite a sight to see (and hear) an open exhaust, no filter, beat-to-crap CB550 with two Nighthawk rims with old tires and two new tires stacked up and bungee-corded behind me. I should have gotten a picture, but I didn't want to let the bike sit too long, since it tends to pee its fuel out everywhere. It got some odd looks sitting at the dealership with all of the shiny new bikes around.

I've got about 1500 miles on a goldwing with those same exact tires. No problems whatsoever.

Just about to put them on my XS850 as well.

I'll see what I can do about price.

We had a big debate over on the ZRX board about Shinko tires.  The general consensus was they initially got a bad rap as being cheap $hitty tires, but are actually pretty good.  If I recall, I think all their technology and manufacturing comes directly from Yokohama.

I can match that but it's going to be easier to get everything all in one place.

Go for em. They work great.

Shinko started in racing. Initially their street tires were for scooters only and sucked hard. When they got the idea to use race tech for their street stuff it worked out great. Yokohama provided most if not all the R&D.

way high.   $75 mount and balance is insane, IF you are bringing them the wheel and tire, and all they have to do is the swap. :o  If you are bringing in the bike, with wheel attached, then $75 is for a lot more labor, and actually reasonable.

Like I say, if you are bringing them a wheel (off the bike) and a tire to mount, and you end up paying anyone $75.00..........they will be laughing for years to come.  I'd pay $20, and no more than $25.

As for quality, IMO they have the ability to handle waaaaaaaaay more than a vintage CB will ever throw their way.  I just don't see vintage CBs with riders dragging a knee at 100mph.  ;D

  • Oh hell, what's one more bike?
I paid $65-70 for Dunlop 404s last summer.

Didn't someone here say awhile ago that Shinko was a renamed Cheng Shin?

I told the guys here that they should consider me a free Honda advertisement.  A bike pushing 40 years old that starts immediately.  I get more attention than anyone...
