Wow!! I've been looking for just such a list. I wonder........ I pretty much have it sewn up to get Don's kit across the border. But I think I will run this past my painter tonight or tomorrow and see what he has to saw.
I never thought applying paint would be so difficult.

Jaan - I am hoping to pick up the K2 tank and sidecases within the next few days...hopefully. I dropped off the paints last Thursday to him.
The Sunrise Orange has just been ordered and the fellow getting it for me will pick it up mid -December. I need to get a good electrics (left-side) cover and then drop that lot off to the painter. I may be late December or early January for the orange to be done. ;D
But I am getting twitchy for the gold K2 parts.

The painter says the Candy gold tank and sidecases should be ready either tomorrow or Thursday. Pictures as soon as it comes home. He 1500 gritted the second last clear today and is applying the last two clear coats and baking it for 24 hours. We''ll see.

Don - MO arrive yet?

Update. The Gold looked like crap. It in no way was close to the factory color. Well in direct sunlight it was close with otherwise - not at all. I didn't even bother taking pictures of it. I got a Candy Gold kit on order from Don here. Hopefully that will work out better than the 3 week ordeal I just went through.  >:(

Are you gonna buy another tank mate? it'd be a shame to waste a good paint job, even if the color is wrong? Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

No Terry - although the paint job the painter did is show class finish, it upsets me so much I'd sooner see it in primer than wearing that color that was hyped as being close. It's like Candy Gold with a 1000 watt light inside behind it. If one wanted a color like that, then it'll knock your socks off. If one wanted Candy Gold and got that, you'll knock someone else's socks off. ;D

Have you got a spare tank that you could get painted up with the new color mate? I still think it'd be a pity to strip it back to bare steel and start again, (you don't want to just paint over it as the paint can crack if it's too thick) and you could well generate some much needed funds if you sold your recently painted tank on Ebay? I'd like it myself, but the shipping to Oz is a killer on big stuff like that? Cheers, Terry. ;D

Terry - I have about 9 or so 750s and picking up 6 tomorrow and I have a total of 3 early tanks. And one of them is pure crap. So I not only need these ones, I'm going to need a slew more.
I know what you are saying about selling it on eBay or to another member, but to ship a tank and sidecases anywhere is going to be a killer. Dragman is sending me a tank up, and I'm bracing for the shipping costs on it.
I've got a pretty nice 1978 black K tank that I have no use for, but to ship it would be a killer I'm sure.
I need a bunch of the early K tanks. Any I have I need.
And sidecases are another item I have no spares, nor enough of.

Yeah, you're probably right mate, I've got an excellent candy gold K tank here, the paint is badly faded on top, but it still looks nice side-on, if it wasn't for the shipping I'd trade you for your recently painted tank. Oh well, the tyranny of distance........... Cheers, Terry. ;D

Yeah - its a bloody shame. Buddy did a terrific job on laying the paint. He baked it between coats and 1200/1500 grit sanded and cleared, and baked again and again. The job is beautiful, but not what I am looking for.

Dusty, apparently they are in every second garage in every street in the US? I've got a friend in Oregon who buys bikes and parts them out on Ebay, who's never paid more than 100 bucks for a 750/4, even the K0 that he gave me the tach from?

He sent me a pic of two 1975 F's that he bought at a yard sale for 50 bucks for the pair, and I bought the speedo and tach off one and front fender off the other for 50, and he made enough from the rest to buy a couple more.

Don't get me wrong, these bikes aren't "mint" (most times the engines are locked up due to the chilly climate) so he's not destroying bikes that deserve to be ridden rather than parted out, but he's a semi-invalid getting very little help from the US government, so it's a good way to pay his enormous land taxes and put food on the table.

When I emigrate to the US and move into your garage mate, I'll help you locate all these SOHC4 bargains, ha ha! (I'll buy my own beer and Cheese Whiz?) Cheers, Terry. ;D

Duster - a fellow I know has retired and is thinning his collection down to something he feels he can reasonable restore given the time he has left on the planet. I am too insane to think of such rational and will snag as many as I can. I picked up 2 yesterdat and a bunch of parts (small sized pickup) and have to make another run later this winter for the rest.

And as far as the number of bikes, in 1974 I lived in a subdiision of 204 houses. Of that number, just in that one subdivision there were 12 1970 K0s, 6 1971 K1s, 24 1972 K2s, 12 1973 K3s and 3 1974 K4s. That's 57 750s for 204 houses. The bikes gotta be somewhere today. And look at the package Dragman fell into. Believe me, the lots of them are out there.

And as Terry stated, not all are mint - far from it. Total restos is what they all need. As I said earlier, I now have 11 in my garage (2 from yesterday) and only 3 early tanks. I have 7 sets of 341 pipes that aren't even fit for the garage. I have heard of guys getting great deals on complete running bikes, but as Sonny Bono sang "I't ain't me babe."

Hey 6pkrunner,

I sorta had the same reaction you had when I received my tank and panels in the spring.  But once I put them on the bike, I really liked it.

In my case, I didn't have anything original to match to.

The colour can't be that bad that would paint over it , could it.  Is it that bright?

Good luck with the second try, but it's a colour that is very tricky to duplicate.

Claude

motorcycleclaude75 - the color looks spot on - if you parked a Candy Gold bike in the direct sunlight. And the way the paint can dance is pretty incredible.

But, except for my few variations that I'm nuts on - 17 inch rear wheel and a 1971 seat I'm putting on a K2, I like them close to stock looking. Okay there's that bloody Kerker on the F3, but I couldn't get a decent stock pipe.
As I said in the post I made above, in the subdivision I lived in during the 60/70s - we had tons of CB750s floating around. And there were about 7 of those in Candy Gold. I have the color etched in my mind. To view the tank and see how far its off is worse than if I had of airbrushed some garish design on it. The K2 I'm doing right now has got to be Candy Gold - no way around it. The K4 has to be Sunrise Orange. I'll never pretend to be sane or the least bit logical over the machinery I play with and many years ago I told myself I'd have a Candy Gold K2. And the K4 is a pseudo replacement for my old and departed K3.
So $140 plus $150 poured down the drain in the failed attempt so far will be eaten cheerfully if I can get real Candy Gold.
Makes no sense, I know - but gotta have the real deal.

There out there all right Mark, I bought that one yesterday (I've got 5 750's in the garage now) and heard about another one this morning, so they must be falling outta the trees on your side of the pond mate, ha ha! Cheers, Terry. ;D
