Vintage, Classic or Just old?
« on: August 21, 2010, 03:05:48 pm »
I am starting my first project bike, a 1982 XV750 Virago, and before I got it off the truck there was debate. Should I say I am working on a Vintage Classic, or just plain OLD motorcycle? There were six of us there and no majority decision.
I do not work on "that old bike" all the time! Remember, I took you to the movies to see E.T. that time?

I'd say it's just an old bike :)  When I think vintage I think of 69-76 ish i.e. cb750

I would say an old bike. I have one in my garage right now I'm working on for a friend.
Did you know you can actually put the carbs on backwards during reassembly :o

Oh, and the oil filter can go back in backwards as well :o  Of course that seizes the engine. in an hour or so. No I didn't do that one, but I did the 1st!

Of course youve got your vintage, classic, retro, old, new to me,  newish, and newer. Might have missed a few there, but take your pick  :)

I think 81 was the first year and it was the first Japanese V twin so it may eventually have some legitimate claim as a vintage classic.
