Geez Hush, I was only kidding man, no need to take it so hard  ;)

Got the tank and back fender painted today. There's a few dust boogers in it, I think from the tack rag when I tacked off the metallic base, but those I'll deal with. A little nib filing, some wet sanding and I think it'll be just peachy. I did have a problem with a new spray gun I bought, bugger didn't want to spray consistently, which is weird since the other one I have is perfect! I was trying to figure out what was wrong and over tightened a piece and broke it  >:( Thats $45 down the toilet. I took it back in and explained what happened and they said they'd see what they can do and call me back tomorrow. If there isn't anything they can do because I was the one who messed it up, ok, I'll just buy another one and if this one doesn't spray right take it back before I foul it up.

I'll take some pics tomorrow.

It really depends on the manufacturer.  If you break a craftsman, kobalt, snap-on, etc tool they replace it even if you where at fault.  Some most times its cheaper for them to replace the tool and get a good rep then it would be if they denied it.  Especially if the tool wasn't operating correct to begin with

I hope so otherwise I'm buying a new one since I really need a spray gun that works, and if this one doesn't behave I'll take it back before I foul it up.

I had really good luck with my black lacquer (somewhere there are pictures) but it wasn't gas-safe, so in the end a bad investment of time and energy.  All this is extended learning experiences for you, too, so when you're standing somewhere putting your helmet on and some guy walks up to you and says "Nice bike" you can talk his bloody ears off about how much work went into that paintjob alone. :D

stop buffing your tank with sheep and you won't have lanolin makin' fisheyes (or sheepeyes?)

*shudder* sheeps eyes creep me out!

On a bright note, the local paint shop just gave me a brand new gun for the one I buggered up! I was hoping for something like this but you never know. Anyhow, I'm very impressed with their helpfulness and for sure will buy my paint supplies from them in the future, unless of course I can find it for disgustingly less money elsewhere. They are National Coating Supply on State and about 6750 S. Stellar service.

I'm off to wetsand and hopefully put a graphic on my tank sans sheepeyes *shudder*

Thanks, I'll take whatever help I can get!  ;D

Ok, so it's now 12:12 am and I have to get up to go to work at 4 am, hmmm not a good thing. I still have 30 mins before I put my last coat of clear over the artwork. I think I'm gonna be direct lining caffeine tomorrow  :(  Oh well, so far it's been worth it! The graphic came out really pretty good, a ton better than the last failed attempt. There are some things that need to be touched up, I accidently sanded through one area on the bottom, I touched it up, hopefully it'll look ok. I've got some wicked looking runs in the clear, but that's not a huge concern. My biggest concern is getting enough clear on there to completely cover the graphic so when I wetsand next week it doesnt' get hit.

Razor, I think for the side badges I'm gonna look into some black uv resistant vinyl lettering. It was interesting enough trying to get something this big to work, I don't want to deal with letters.

Anyhow, I'll post some progression pics next week here and in my painting thread, hope you like them.

It's now 6:53am, I didn't get to sleep until 1:20am and woke up at 4am...... this is gonna be a loooong day.

Short of some sort of catastrophic paint issue, I'm just gonna wetsand and clear coat the tank a few more times and be done with it. There is some minor touch up work, but thats it. The rest of the stuff I'll paint the pretty blue, but no graphics. Gotta get this done before I'm old and gray!

Ok, here is a pic of the tank, like everything so far 2 steps forward 1 step back.

There is definately some sanding and rework to be done. But for saying I shot this at around midnight I think it turned out pretty well.

My dreams of a perfect spray job :'( :'(  ;D ;D

Not quite sure what happpened, musta had the gun too close. Considering I had to wake up in a few hours to go to work, I'm just glad I didn't grab the wrong paint  ;D This is what I love about clear coat, some work with a nib file, a little elbow grease (careful not to get any on the paint, it'll fisheye  >:( ) and it will come out looking like a million bucks.

The runs sanded out really well. I'm gonna paint a stripe down everything, it's just too much blue. However since stripes are straight it shouldn't be too bad.

I got the centerstand on today and also the swing arm. Unfortunately I forgot that the brake arm needed to go on first so I had to pull the swingarm off again. When I put the brake arm in it was really really tight, so I think I must have some paint in there. After class tonight I'm going to come back and try and get most of the back end back on. I am getting ready to mock up the saddle bags so I can build the frame. I'm going to be doing it out of solid rod and tubing. Since I don't have a bender I can't really bend tubing. I do have a vise and a oxy/acetyline set up so I can bend solid rod, and solid rod will bend sharper than tubing anyhow. I'm going to make all the corners out of the solid rod and then braze the tubing onto it. At least, thats the plan, we'll see how well it actually works.

Well, off to class now (poopy school, gonna interfere with my build!!)
