What did Hush tell you Brandon, fix it ride it, make it pretty next year. ;D
I've got the same deal with Jaffa, when the Summer really hits, she puts her big 4litre Ford car away in the garage and digs out her Chinese scooter for work.
I've got to fix my son's bike and finish hers before Summer hits and the boat towing car goes into hibernation. ;)
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

I just wanted to pretty her up  ;)  I've learned a ton from this and really have enjoyed it overall but it is time to bring this portion to a close. I painted the headlight ears last night, now all thats left is wetsanding and clearing, so hopefully that will go well.

And then it'll be time to see whether or not my gamble pays off and try to start the engine....

I'm getting ready to clear the front fender and the tank for the last time, then it's let it cure, cut, buff. Just in time too, there is supposed to be a storm moving in tonight that may bring snow  >:( Luckily it'll melt quick if it does snow. I'm not ready for winter, this summer went by too fast. This has to have been one of the most enjoyable summer's I've had in my 28 years. I'm already looking for my next project bike. I guess thats the up side to the snow and changing season, bikes become cheaper since people suddenly decide they don't want to have to store them.

Well, pics when the parts are done.

Well it's getting colder, the high today was 63F, I miss those high double digits  :'(  At least I was able to clear everything before it started getting too cold, sad thing is all the left over paint is toast.

Onto the awesome pics, heres the rear fender and the side cover. Thanks again to Myhondas for the decals, sooooo much better than I could ever have hoped to pull off airbrushing, and they were super easy to apply! Soos saw them and with the clear over them swore they looked painted, which imo is a good thing.

Any straight lines you see are fuzzies, these things are so smooth you could pull a perfect fingerprint off them. Sadly my ugly mug shows up on the rear fender pic, but it just shows how well they polished up. Just have the tank and the other side cover to do, slap everything back together and see if she'll run for me.

On a side note, I found that the 77 GT550 controls I bought don't allow the front blinkers to double as running lights unless I installed some additional electronics. Since they aren't actually required I'm not going to worry about it.

Enjoy,

Brandon

Hey they came up pretty good Brandon, I'd have another go at that middle one, big guys in red Tee shirts don't seem to make good transfers, try a nude shot from a centrefold.

Yeah, Soos has been awesome to do a few trades with and help me with a few things. I'll get pics of the headlight ears, they turned out pretty well. They are heavy gauge enough that if I ever hit a tin top head on, it'll cut their car open like a can opener :D

Thanks for the compliments guys, I honestly couldn't have done near the job I did without everyones support and ideas. This place is a breeding ground for awesome ideas and support!

Sorry, no pics yet, the batteries died in the camera after an abnormally short time, must have left it powered on or something  >:(

I pulled the paint booth down since I'm all done painting, feels kinda empty in there now. Oh well, guess I'll just have to spread the mess around a bit  ;)

I ran into some problems trying to get the GT controls to work and decided to just use the originals for now, maybe down the road I'll do something else but for now I'm just gonna leave it. All the lights seem to work, so thats a good sign.

I've also put the rubber undercoat on the bottom of the front fender and the fuel tank, so after I polish the other side cover and the fuel tank I'll be done with that!!

Does anyone have any words of wisdom when putting the back end together? I'm just trying to make sure I get it the first time. I had to remove and install the swing arm 3 times and I'd really like to avoid that if possible with the rest of the assembly. I hope I have pics of how the cables are routed on the front end, I kind of remember. If anyone has a good pic of the cable routing and would be kind enough to post it, that'd be awesome. I probably won't get a chance to do much till after work saturday.

I'll try and get some batteries and pics friday if I'm not too busy with other things.

Thanks,

Brandon

Assemble the wheel/ brake before putting it on.  Have a helper hold the spacers and adjusters in place its a pain in the arse if you have to do it alone.  Putting the shocks on before the wheel would make things easier too.

The cables are routed under the tripletree and under the honda plate.  It is different on mine now because I used the headlight basket.

That is an inconceivably egregious transgression against my rudimentary concordance of socially shunned individuals.

I got the front fender and wheel on, and cleaned and greased the control cables. I was going to put the rear tire on but I can't locate the nut that goes on the swingarm bolt. I don't remember why I didn't torque it down but now it's missing. I'm pretty put out about that, I managed to keep track of the thing for weeks and now I can't find it. I'm going to go home and see if it somehow made it there, if not I'll clean the garage tomorrow and see if I can't find it. If all else fails I'll have to order a replacement, but the bummer is it means I won't be able to get it assembled tomorrow. How frustrating.

Here's a few pics I snapped.

Well if there is, all us men better be wary, apparently it eats nuts!  ;)

The biggest pain is Bikebandit shows it as being discontinued. I'm going to check the local bolt and nut place and hopefully they'll have one, if not boltdepot.com has them. I beleive it's a m16x1.5, I checked the thread pitch last night, and the fische said it was a 16mm. Seriously, I almost started throwing things last night I was so irritated, and I usually don't let it get that far. Oh well. Next time I redo a bike, I'm gonna buy 1000 baggies and a magic marker and some totes.

Are you sure the pitch is 1.25? Most of the stuff on these bikes is 1.0 (I think...but could be wrong, I'll do some more checking)...

Well, looks like I need to read a little closer. You said 1.5 pitch? It might be 1.25, JIS...All I know is that I have had a hard time finding the proper pitch metric bolts, etc (I have only looked locally and glanced on line. Luckily, I keep scavenging bolts/nuts out of the spare parts boxes I have developed over the last year...Forget JIS, at the moment I'm looking for BSP British pipe fittings!

I just wish we could develop MIS as in Motorcycle Standard. I have a pitch checker and the 1.5 fit very well, I'll double check. I seriously hope I find it after some serious cleanup tonight. I've told myself that I can't buy another project bike until I at least get this one running decent. And there is a 71 500 for $500  in the local papers, and I've been seriously considering picking up a 500 or 550 and cafeing it. We'll see. Finding that nut will go a long way to letting me try and fire her up.

Heck I'll give you the one off the frame I got off you recently if you want!

Soos if you wouldn't mind sparing one I sure won't object. I was able to find a normal nut at the store, but I'd really rather have the original. In other words, I'd love one, but don't feel like its a rush. I'm about to go out and get it all buttoned up.
