What should I do with this exhaust? (350F)
« on: June 11, 2009, 02:41:16 PM »
I thought I was going to slap this on my bike as a acceptable rider system, but upon closer inspection I'm not real sure it's any better than what I have.  The head pipes have what appear to be a liquid stain of some sort on them and a lot of blueing.  The mufflers themselves clean up ok but I see weak spots that may pop through if I pick at them.  What do you think about cutting these off at the 2 -> 1 section of the pipe?  I could then graft them somehow to the headers I have and use any slip on with that pipe ID.  I have no welding equipment whatsoever so this will be on the muffler shop to do.  I noticed one of the pipes com in at an angle to the 2 -> 1 part.  How much of a problem is that?

Good question, I don't trust muffler shop guys to weld much of anything, I'd look for a professional welding shop personally.
I wonder of spraying a good coating of VHT paint down into each pipe would help those iffy areas you mentioned last longer?

Personally I say if it works, bolt it on and ride until it's worn out, then bolt on the next one.  I'd keep them as a spare set and think about customizing them after those weak areas fail.
Cheers.
