Republican or Democrat may be a more accurate way to label these instead of left/right.  At the time of the Civil War and for many years after the Republicans were the liberal/progressive party and the Democrats the conservatives .   Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt would be considered liberal/progressives and have little in common other than party affiliation with the rest of the Presidents in the one picture.  They sure were not conservatives.  Neat pictures nonetheless.

i had seen the gop one but not the dem. this painter is good. if the art thread wasn't dead this would be a good spot for it too. maybe i'll revive it by re-posting these pix; or maybe see what else this person did.

next question: who did these? ;D

I didn't realize that.  I had always assumed that Lincoln was a Republican during his political career, but he was a Whig as a Congressman in the late 1840s (another fact I didn't realize...  Lincoln was out of federal public office for more than 10 years before he became President.  I had always assumed he went from the House directly to the Presidency).

He became a Republican in the 1850s, and a National Unionist during his reelection in 1864.

Yeah, it's funny how the Republicans try to label themselves as the Party of Lincoln.  I doubt he would have had anything to do with today's Republican Party. :P
