Cylinder 3's pipe not as hot
« on: June 12, 2009, 05:02:16 PM »
I am finally getting most of the gremlins worked out of my 76 CB550K. I have one more question for you all. (I'm sure there will be more...)

Cylinder 3 seems to be having an issue. After a ride around the block, 1, 2 and 4's pipes are all hot. 3 is hot too, but not as hot as the others. (On a scale of 1-10, 10 being one of the hot pipes, #3 is a 7 or 8)

I pulled the plug for 3 to see if it was fouled, and it was not. I then rode for 20 minutes and pulled the plug again. Still, no real telling signs of an issue yet it's respective pipe is still not as hot as the others. I then placed the plug against the jug and it did spark. Hmmm...

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Also, how do you attach a pic? I have one of the plug, but I can't figure this thing out.

Image hosting...such as photobucket.

Then you attach the photo as a link.

As for the #3 not being as hot as the others....Have you synced the carbs?

Swap the #3 plug with another cylinder.  Does the cool pipe follow the plug or does it stay with #3?
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

What tune-up steps have you done?  Have the tappets been checked/adjusted?  Besides swapping the plug, swap the plug cap too.  Look inside the cap.  Is there green corrosion where the wire screws in?  If so, nip off about a quarter inch of wire.
