How to test your rear shocks
« on: June 14, 2009, 05:46:42 PM »
OK been down to see an old mate who was a Honda apprentice many moons ago and is now head mechanic at the local Suzuki dealers.
I gave him my CB650 rear shock which looks in great nick and he pushed it into the concrete floor just as a bike would depress it.
His verdict "coozed bro it's coozed"!
OK so how do we tell?
If the shock bounces straight back with no hint of a slow return then it is running on the spring only, the hydrolic side of things is knackered...time for a new one.
OK I know many on here knew this already but a lot of Newbies have asked the same question and I thought i would just post it for them.
Result: I'll be emailing Parts'nmore for a set of their $116 rear shocks...happy riding folks. :D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Maybe one of the Mods could move this to the tips and tricks section for permanent reference?

Go for the Ikons Hush, you won't regret spending the extra money.

When I changed to new shocks(also went with the parts-n-more 120'ish range shocks) the ride became so much better.

IMO, for a good ride enhancement, shocks are money well spent.

Hey Soos, do those new shocks from Parts'n more have a double clevis at the bottom or a single?
Mine need a double clevis fitting, I don't mind paying $116 for the shocks then $137 shipping but I would like the right shocks for that kind of money. :D
