Counterproductivity
« on: June 15, 2009, 08:38:08 AM »
Spent the weekend diligently working
my '70 Fiat Spyder's brakes as well as some finishing touches on
the '48 Indian.
When I closed the garage door Sunday afternoon,
the brakes on the Fiat were not working and
the Indian refused to start.
I was thinking of doing a little maintenance on the CB750,
but I think I'll wait a while until this malaise passes.
Anybody else ever been so afflicted ?

A few years ago In my appliance repair phase I got called to an old customer on Sat afternoon a doctor his fridge wasn't working, I showed up and couldn't pinpoint the problem within the first couple of minutes, so I stopped said excuse me went outside walked around for a couple of minutes or so, walked back in put my hands on the fridge and got it, said got it, he looked at me and I said I had to leave it for a second or so because I was missing something ahh he says, anyhow fridge is repaired, bill has been presented he says would you like a drink, it was the last call of the day so OK anyhow as he was pouring I asked him did he ever have days where things don't fall into place where he struggled all day and didn't have it easy ( he was at the time chief of surgery at a fairly large hospital) and he said yes not often but there is the occasional day where I struggle and at the end of the day I probably should have just put off the diagnosis until the next day, because then it all falls into place and I wonder why it didn't come to me before. So if he can have days like that and I have days like that every one else can to.

Only difference is people tend to die when he has "one of those days".
With you they had a still broken fridge. Just a slight bit different.

Maybe you were supposed to be working on the Indian brakes and the Fiat's ignition?

Some days, not even a bigger hammer will fix the problem.

I've had days like that, but then again I am a Engineering student. Some days class is nothing but Latin, then the following day after one brief example everything clicks. Sometimes it take a couple weeks.
But have had plenty of day working where just nothing goes right. I worked for Caterpillar Inc. for two years at one their testing facilities and we would have days where the machines would just not cooperate with us. and its a bad day when a million dollar piece of machinery breaks down when you're not even trying to break it, or on your way to the test site...

And sometimes it doesn't happen all semester, but I squeaked by with good attendance and a passing lab grade.

That's how I squeaked by on my first semester physics class.

If it doesn't fit, hit it with a hammer. If it still doesn't fit, get a bigger hammer. If it breaks, it probably needed replacing anyway.  ;D ;D You mean to tell me that some of you out there actually have days that arn't like that? ::) sheeze, how does that happen?

I have  days like that whenever I walk out of  job interviews lately (like the last 10 years).  :-\

My friends car was hesitating during starting.

I take the battery out take it to the parts store, battery is perfect.

Hmmm maybe it's the alternator. Take the alternator out and take it in and test it, perfect.

Starter, maybe? Take it out test it, perfect.

What in the hell ! @#&)#@$&(#@

Smoked like five ciggerettes, drank a beer, walked around and cursed. Then it hit me.. wait a minute.

Took out one spark plug, it was fried. Big time.

Took the others out, same problem.

Duh.... in retrospect I figured that really should have been the first thing I checked, but I always expect the worst so I always check the most expensive stuff first... gah.

Doing rear wheel bearing on a subaru today.  Damn bottom pivot bolt won't budge.  Heat, torque, lube =nothing.  I had to bash the piss out of it to remove it and now I need another one.  It is always a bad day when I have to go to the dealer.
