Reg/Rect combo install
« on: June 13, 2009, 07:25:07 PM »
I am installing a reg/rect combo from Oregon MC Parts... and now I have to ask some questions to satisfy my obsessive compulsive side....

These go along with the pictures here in order

Pic 1) Since all these wires are going to go into the the same 6 way plug, why are two of them connected by bullet connectors instead of just going into the same plug with female blade connectors? The instructions have me putting the three yellows into that nice new white plug with spade connectors, but the green ( his looks blue in the pic)  and white to the bullet style which he has already provided.  I could have just put them all in the plug  and it would have been neater.  I suspect it's so Tony can help you trouble shoot it after you put it in but am I right?  Or am I planning to wire it incorrectly?

Pic 2) The instructions say that "The 3 wires from the 4-prong plug will connect to the wiring harness in the following order; red to red ( or red with a white stripe,) black to black and green to green."  I have no red or red with white stripe.  Should it go to the white?  I am supposed to be connecting it to the three wires that used to go to the rectifier, right?

( EDIT )problems with Google's Chrome... added the pics now..

And what part is it that goes there against the battery box on the two bolts at the bottom?  Its ears are broken off and it is beat up pretty badly so I can't read anything on it.  I can't find it in the diagram in the Haynes manual.

I believe it's for the starter motor safety unit.
