He'd be mad to break it, surely he wouldn't get enough for the parts would he?

jim~
about your hjc question... in 98 or so i had a full face hjc, never wrecked it though so i cant tell you how it really does its job.  but, it was quite comfortable and was a good helmet.
recently, my dad gifted me a used arai.  it is not more than a few years old so the 2 helmets were probably 5 or less years apart in design.  the arai is a far superior helmet although i have not wrecked it either.  it is hands down the most comfortable bucket i've ever put on my head.  there are enough vents to actually make a difference.  and it is light as a feather.
steves right... kwit arsin around.   ;D

by the way... we got it from a friend of a friend for 150 dollars.

Heffay,
I will try an Araia and a Shoei.. They are bloody expensive over here, at least, $350-400 min. The HJC is on sal for $170.

i thought the entire point of the article was that spending 3-500 bux for a helmet is not worth the money - that the extra money does not buy you any less chance of brain damage...? am i wrong on this?

steve - what's your reasoning for encouraging such expenses in view of the research presented?

modified - in my crash of 10/7/05 i was wearing an HJC AC-3 - an open faced model costing around 130 dollars US. I flew through the air (according to witnesses) with the greatest of ease and landed right on the top of my head! yes i damaged myself - my spine. which could not have been avoided even with a 1000 dollar helmet. the HJC, by the way THE MOST COMFORTABLE HELMET i tried on during my shopping research, delaminated and crunched and saved my life. fortunately i did not hit my face and am still able to make funny for the camera!

j'lo...

cjunkie,
Thanks, I will be interested to see the responses. I am told that the HJC helmets are in the top 5 brands in the world. I was watching the Superbikes recently and I saw some of the racers wearing the HJC helmet.

cb - I think the research shows that a helmet is a helmet is a helmet. After all, that's what the specification is supposed to provide.

The differences are in fit, weight, comfort, venting, noise etc

Oh and brand of course...

I started riding well before any helmet law came into being (in the UK).
One large bee between the eyes at 50mph leaving Brands Hatch one day (on a 1956 BSA A10) convinced me that additional protection (other than a pair or ex-RAF flying goggles) was needed - bought an Open-face (all you could get in them thar days) and liked it (especially in winter), but spent many hours picking bugs out of my teeth.  Came the first Full face and I knew what heaven was.  Now it's full face everytime for me.

steve,
ah, spoken like a true "old-timer"  ;D ;D ;D

mean no disrespect...i have noticed the tendency, illustrated by my father - former BSA/TRI man, now DARKSIDE, to move towards greater and greater levels of comfort despite cost.  one of the benefits of being a pensioner?   ;)

You know what they say:

"There are OLD bikers...

... and there are BOLD bikers ...

You know the rest.

Now I'm going to put on one of the three helmets I have in my garage and wait for the flak  8)
