She's Alive!!
« on: June 13, 2009, 03:07:28 PM »
Spent a few hours working on my 750F1 this afternoon, put new plugs on , new oil etc, fresh fuel in the tank. turned the engine a few times on the kickstart to get oil pressure up,turned kill switch on to run and pressed starter button, fired up first time. YES!! ;D
Just a few checks to do in the morning then I can take her for a test run.
It's my first SOHC resto so to hear that engine run again after being in bits for 2years is a big buzz! Can't stop smilin  ;D ;D ;D

Andy that's great news!  Be careful on your ride tomorrow, there's nothing worse than a mishap on the first ride but it does happen.
May the force be with you.

Yeh, I replaced pistons too, so for the first few miles I'm gonna have to take it nice and easy

Per HM when i put new rings on don't go over 5000 rpms for 500 miles through different speed ranges then change the oil to make sure the rings seat correctly.

And staying under 5000 RPM is a bit of a challenge!  ;D

The test run today went well, I made sure the engine had warmed up a bit before venturing out. Kept my speed to 30-40 mph and the engine sounded sweet through out the ride.
I was only out for about half an hour but I enjoyed every minute.
The only problem I've got is that the carb on No. 2 leaks when I leave the bike stood. I'm suspecting this is a cracked overflow, which should fix easy enough, and I think that she maybe running a bit rich.
Great to be back riding her again after being being off the road for 2 years. ;D ;D ;D

Andy 1976, was Carb#2 leaking from the float bowl or the overflow tube? Mine was leaking from the bowl as my float bowl gasket was installed incorrectly. The gasket was pinched between the carb body and the bowl causing a slight trickle of gas. Very easy to fix.

Great to hear that another 76 750F is on the road!!

Hi David,
carb#2 is leaking from the overflow, but it only seems to do this when I put it on the side stand,it seems OK when on the main stand. ???

Congrats on getting her up and running, Andy.

Maybe your #2 float is off a bit?
