76' Supersport 750
« on: June 29, 2009, 12:11:45 PM »
Just started the teardown of my 76 supersport. So far its been an inferno of cable splices and unoriginal nut's n bolts.

This is the before picture

The frame has been brushed with something that resembles hammerite, so I decided to have It powdercoated. I got a quote of ~650$ for powdercoating from a local company. It includes sandblasting of the frame and all the small parts on the frame. I have seen frames that they have coated and they look very nice.  I guess I could find cheaper firms, but you cant beat good quality.

I'll try to keep the pictures flowing during the teardown and rebuild.

$650 for the powdercoating seems mighty high.  I got quoted $150 for the frame and swingarm for my '78.  And that's from a shop that has done good work for me before on other projects.

But anyway, good luck on the rebuild!

I knew the powdercoating price i got was a bit much. But prices here in norway are usually double or more compared to prices in the states .

As for the exhaust. Yep, its a benjie. I bought the pipe almost a year ago, when I was really into caferacers. Now thogh I wish the stock exhaust was in better condition. It just looks better on the bike. The Stock headers I got has been repainted with silver colored hotpaint, and the muffler was a banged up dunstall.

About the rear fender. Is'nt the rear fender supposed to look like the F2's rear fender?

Ill get back with more teardown pictures tomorrow.

I have 2 1976 CB750F1 barn finds that were sold new in Minnesota and Iowa.  Both have a black plastic liner around the rear wheel under the seat, and a steel license plate frame that is painted black.  Neither have the chrome fender around the rear tire like yours.

Were the European models shipped with the chrome part, or did a PO install it?

BTW, I recently got a quote for sandblasting and powder coating my frame and swingarm for $225 here in Iowa.

In Maine I was quoted $450 from one shop and $550 from the other that I called for powder coating...

heh, too many pictures.

Anyhow. Notice the 2 UNPAINTED triple trees in the picture above... Figures.

I didnt get the exact color i wanted. i wanted the ral 9005 Jet black. but the painters only had the color in 50 gloss.
so the color the frame is painted in is graphite black ral 9011 at 80 gloss. it looks grey'ish under hard light though.

Its almost the same as jet blac with normal light.

This picture contains 2 "errors" too.

Look how crooked the headlight and front flasherholder is.
And i accidentaly sent the bolt that holds the main stand to the powdercoaters too. I bet its gonna be a tight fit  :-[

The total cost for the powdercoating came to about 450$.

Just noticed that my frame number makes the bike a 1975.  CB750f-1032790. It wasn't registered until late 76 though. and the title Say's 1976. i getter get to my local dmv and have them correct their mistake.
