New to bikes, vw builder
« on: June 15, 2009, 11:06:59 AM »
I picked up two 74 CB550s for $400 from someone getting divorced sold one to a buddy and kept the other.  Ive been rebuilding older 80s Volkswagens for a few years and finally decided to get a bike.  I have always wanted a cafe style bike, so that's my goal with this.  For now I just plan to replace the bars and seat, and put some new paint on the covers and tins.  This winter I'll probably tear it all apart and rebuild it from the ground up.

I currently have a 81 vw rabbit pickup in pieces all over my garage im rebuilding, so one resto job at a time.  You'll probably be seeing me around asking questions alot trying to learn the ins and outs of the bike.

If anyone is interested, you can see my current progress on the vw truck im building here http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4083729 .  Long way to go but hope to have it done by show season next year.

Welcome!

Lucky bastard!  That's a great deal!

Ive been rebuilding older 80s Volkswagens for a few years and finally decided to get a bike.

Air cooled four cylinder motor, you should feel right at home in no time working on these.  :)

Your pics are fine btw, we like pics here, don't have to put them in the gallery first.

Cheers
