Help me with pricing on my bikes?
« on: June 15, 2009, 11:29:40 AM »
I have three bikes for sale.  I can describe them to the fullest and add pics but I am asking for input on fair market value.  I have a '75 CB400F, a '76 CB550F and a '76 Cb550 Four.   I have two of them listed in bikes for sale but I think I might be asking too much.  Any input would be appreciated.
Oh, and if you think they're worthless, I'll gladly drop them off at your house for free. ;D

I found them...  Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $2200 for the 400F and no more than $1200 for the 550F.  The 400 seems okay with a couple of small issues and the 550 looks a little rougher.  The tank was POR15'd but it's still a crapper to me since rust made it's way all the way through and was soldered.

That's just me though.

I just looked at craigslist for Vermont, and apparently there are a few great looking honda cbs of various sizes for what I would consider extremely good prices IE under $1500. I live in Texas now (and CA until recently) and it's virtually impossible to find a 550 in decent shape for anywhere near $1500! Guess I'll have to move to Vermont!
Regarding your question, judging by my non-scientific research, it's a regional thing... as of RIGHT NOW most of the 70s hondas on craigslist in Vermont are sub-$1200, though they probably aren't as nice and original as yours are.

Also, in terms of making your ad more appealing, you absolutely *MUST* put good, current photos up! Pictures are worth a thousand words, especially when it comes to getting someone excited about making a trip out to check out a sweet, sweet vintage Honda!

Just my two cents! Good luck!

Not to rain on your parade but the wording in your ads needs to be toned down. People will not come to look at a bike if the seller seems like he wil not deal.

In my opinion, both bikes are way over priced. In todays economy you will be hard pressed to get more than $ 1200.00 for the CB400 and maybe $ 1400.00 for the 550.

The other tip about clear recent pictures is true. Nothing turns away more buyers than poor pictures or older ones, makes them think of what you might be hidding.

It's always been my understanding that Cb400F's were far more than 550's.  550's are more common than the 400's and they were sold for more than 2.5 years.
I thank all you for your input.  Vermont is a tough market since it is possible to know every bike in a 20 radius.  There is not a big market for vintage Honda's and they are priced that way.  But who knows?  I might get lucky dangling the right worm in front of the right fish, if you know what I mean.
I feel that the 400 is worth more than $1200.  I've watched Ebay far too much when I was looking for one to let this one go for that much.  I'd be happy with 2k or a bit more. -----------SS

I guess it all depends on how much you need the money! If you can wait it out, you might be able to get more money when the economy improves, or the right buyer happens to come across your ads. Have you considered eBay? If they go for way more on eBay then that seems the way to go...
