He dropped it!!!
« on: June 15, 2009, 11:12:53 AM »
Good thing it only scratched the chrome on the engine guard. But my dad told me that when he tried to move my bike this morning, it hit the ground. When he picked it up he said there was a puddle of gas and oil on the garage floor. Is that normal? Where did it come from? Should I be concerned?!  :-[

Oil might have come from the filler cap....

I'd check the cylinders just in case gas somehow got into them - pull the plugs and maybe just hit the start button to make sure that there is no
gas in the cylinders... gas doesn't compress like air does - don't ask me how I know
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

Did you shut the petcock off?
You should if you let these bikes sit for any amount of time.

I am pretty good at shutting off the petcock. But come to think of it, I don't think I did this time.

if it doesn't leak out of the petcock now it shouldn't when its on its side.

fuel cap is a good guess... it could have also easily just drained out of the carbs.
if you have any oil built up on the fins, it could drip from being oriented differently... not sure how much oil we're talkin' about here.

so, have you keyed your dad's car yet?   ;D

Not yet. Apparently he tried to move it but it wouldn't roll (1st gear). He said it didn't "hit" the ground. But slowly fell over. So I guess that's a good thing.

He said it spilled gas and oil but he cleaned it up so I never saw how much there was or if there was oil at all. I just want to make sure I don't have a major issue brewing somewhere.

my 350 fell over in the wind shortly after i bought it... leaked out of the fuel cap and ruined my paint.
bikes aren't meant to be on their side and they will spill stuff out if you put them like that.
i doubt you have a problem other than yer Pops.   ;)
