identity crisis

its a 74 cb350f and i havent been able to figure out what or where this exhaust system came from, seen alot of different styles but nothing like this, and its not a hacked up job its all chromed no signs of tampering

underneath where two merge into one


quartered rear


from the front


the only welds are at the collector
has anyone seen this set, is it worth anything? i'd like to make it into a 4-1 but i dont want to destroy a vintage set of pipes

Considering the condition of them, you may want to sell/trade them.  I'm guessing they have no baffles and a low rumble?  You may be able to swap a local guy (craigslist, vintage moto clkub, etc...) and save yourself the hassle of chopping them.

They look like the mac aftermarket ones. Do the headers come down and slip on, or have a weld joint before the part where it becomes the big pipe?

Looks like the PO thought they were a bit too loud so he installed his own version of a baffle.

And yes, they're loud.

On mine, each two-into-one section is welded where the two become one, then the whole assembly slips on the headers, no clamping or welding.

all welded on mine you can see that in the pics, maybe the po welded the slip-on on then had it re chromed?? i doubt it, but the welds have the same plating or chrome as the rest of the pipes.

laminar your pipes are quite different than mine, look at the shape of the bends

That would be my guess. The heads on mine were pretty rusty, so when I welded the Macs on I just painted everything black to about an inch pass the slip on point that I had welded. They don't have to be welded, as they are just slip ons, but I am weird that way and wanted them welded, apparently so was the po and he then had them rechromed.

hmm bummer.. one of my 550 had pipes like that on it when I got them but they where pretty rusty and reminded me of a harley so I tossed them.. *shrug*

A company called Jardine was very big into those old slip on mufflers in the day. Lots of them on still on older 750's. Used the old headpipe,cut it correctly and slip them on and bolt em up.

Man the I like the sound of  the bike in the video.   makes me want to do something like that or even put a set of these on my bobber project.

You mean the turnout? It does look a bit different, now that you mention it. The place where the two pipes become one looks very similar, though (sorry I don't have better pictures of mine).

not just the turnout but the bends themselves, the bends on my pipes are sharper, mine seem to have more straight length and tighter bends, how bout a straight on side to side comparison???

Are you talking about the actual header pipes? I'm assuming I have the stock header pipes with old mufflers cut off and new tail pipes slipped on over the cutoff header pipes.

yes the header pipes are different, and it looks like you have  some sort of hob job bracket to attach the "slip on" to the rear foot pegs, mine have a bracket built onto the pipe that bolts onto the rear footpeg bolt like it was factory, i was an idiot and cut them off when i cut off the rear pegs......let me digg for a pic i'm pretty sure i have one

Well since the header pipes are original to both bikes, and we have different bikes, then they could still be different.

The bracket attaching the left slip-on onto the rear passenger footpeg looks nice and factory, but the right side bracket looks bent up quite a bit - I think a PO was trying to get the brake pedal to clear the exhaust and modified it.

If you really want the turn-out look, you could get some turn down tips and face them sideways.

i guess after looking through the pics on the 350 registry page my pipes don't even resemble the stock 350f pipes????..., the bend going under the frame is way sharper and going up to the head they just don't resemble the factory stuff at all. frome the merge back everything else looks the same.................way to confused about these, any other ideas?

see how tight they fit to the frame, the angle is the same, sharp bend at the bottom

i'm having a hard time believing that these are stock pipes fitted with an aftermarket slip on
