I cannot believe it!!
« on: June 15, 2009, 10:57:15 PM »
I was riding home from work this afternoon and stumbled upon a bike with a sign next to it.

Seeing all kinds of bikes for sale in recent month I though nothing of it until I managed to get a glimpse of the sign as I flew by.

FREE.

I left a skid mark as long as the day is long. I was breathing heavy and my hands were shaking.

This is what I found. Sorry for the crappy phone pics.

After talking with the owner I raced home as fast as that XS could take me and hopped in my truck and brought it to the shop.
No title but IL makes it a slow but easy process to get one.

First the XS850 and now this...
Starting to think I should get hit more often.   ;D Just kidding. It hurt like hell.

it's a total mess. You can smell the turpentine in the tank from a mile away. I removed the petcock and it was a solid mass of rust and goo.

But the tank seems in pretty decent shape inside.

you lucky bastid  ;D wrecking the turbo was bad getting hurt like you did was even worse BUT look at this. you got that xs850 and NOW the best looking vintage honda. i LOVE to look of the old twins. it were mine i'd do a black bomber-like street racer. if it were mine. ever since i went to Ilbikes  house andsaw his black bomber restore i've had black bombers on the brain.

Yes I may be a jerk and a lucky #$%* but I'd give it all back for my turbo. In any case I'll make the best of my recent luck!!

Did a quick once over of the bike this morning and it looks 100% with no missing parts that I can find. Except a battery.

Pulled the tank and side covers and it still has decent air filters but the fuel system is going to be my biggest hurdle. It even turns over when hooked up to a battery so the electric system isn't totally fried.

Should be a fun resto. Fuzzy you wanna send me pictures? I def have an affinity for black.  ;)

Now Havoc, you (of all people) shouldn't have to deal with the likes of that! :( Don't be concerned, I'll take that old crap off of your hands, so that you can move on with your life. ;)  Well, seriously, Congratulations Havoc, that IS one NICE find that you have there. Gotta keep us posted now. ;)

BTW, I'd keep checking the area, no telling what else you might find. 8)

What's with this Heffay is a guest crap.  Did we lose another one?  Did some one piss him off?  Was his jealousy of Havocs score too much to bear?  What could It be?

Good Find!  Who cares that the gas is bad and it is a total mess?  Free is free!  Any money you put into it is worth it. Plus, judging from the pics, it is a complete bike.  Man, I do wish I had your luck, all I ever find on the way home is speeding tickets or flat tires >:( Keep us posted dude!

Want to make a profit?  :D

NICE find, I'm impressed. Right place and right time is really all there is to that one. Now that my CB is running reliably I'm about ready to jump into another project.

My friend's dad actually picked up a '69 450 at an auction, sweet little bike. I wouldn't mind having one myself, but as of right now I'm trying to decide which bike to get on the road next...

I'd be more than willing to sell it to a forum member as soon as I get papers for it.

I don't want to sell anyone a paperless bike.

I also cannot let it go without being in full running condition.  :-\ I'm a psycho I know.

I am quite happy keeping it but since it will go to the back of the project line it will sit for probably a long time.

If someone else can make use of it I'm game.
