Pillaging a 77 GoldWing for parts ... need advice
« on: June 17, 2009, 06:19:17 AM »
So a buddy of mine is picking up a 77 Goldie because he needs the motor and since I am lending him my bike trailer to go get it he says I can have whatever parts I want.  Score ;D

I know I want the 6 bolts that bolt the brake discs together as I am planning to put on dual disks on my bike.  Plus his master cylinder.

Should I just take his entire front end and bolt it onto mine.  I think I read on here it's a direct bolt on.  I think I could use his complete fork and disk set up and be done with it.

Are there any other parts I should pillage?

thanks
Gary

Dagnabbit, I just bought the throttle/starter switch assembly from a 'Wing on eBay (which is the same as my '75 F. I'm in Ottawa too. Crap. Timing is everything.

grab the rear rim! to match your front rim! the 77 should have spoke wheels i think i found out that the 75-77 goldwing used CB750A spokes so they will fit! just swap and go!

Grab the items below to make some $$$$

you might want to take the elec panel and seel that!

sell the fake tank

sell the side covers

sell the gauges

the seat

and the rad if your friend doesnt need that....

What about the switch gear? If it is in good shape I should be able wire it up to my harness.

I only want to pillage the items I can use on my CB and let him sell the rest on Ebay.

take the entire front end (provided it is a spoke and not comstar front end) and bolt it on directly at the neck. you can't mix and match GL and cb brake parts, either you use the system from one or the system from the other.

Yup spoked wheels.

Dang I didn't know there were so many goodies to be had.  I'm going to feel guilty and have to offer him a couple of bucks for it all.

Of course I just spent major bucks getting my rims done, new spokes, laced and trued.

The CB front wheel will work fine with the 77 GL front end.

Its ok to say grab the wheels but the rear is a 17 inch!

Tell your mate to keep the swing arm with drive shaft as the sliding joints at the diff end can wear

I am guilty of being a packrat and a horder when it comes to bikes that's for sure.

For my CB I already have 4 tanks, two swing arms, two frames etc, etc.

Plus there is that damn ebay.
