I dont know how it is on a 550... but wouldn't something have to be done about the bottom of the tank on a 750 to accommodate the throttle bar on the top of the carbs? I know my F has recesses built into it.

Looks awesome, keep us posted. if there is a fuel pump hole maybe a simple block off plate with a threaded fuel tap and an inline gas valve or match the pattern of a stock petcock.

On the tank clearance issue, you could move the fork stops to restrict fork movement.  I use to have Duck 900 SS and it had limited fork movement and u turns were not easy but it would save changing the outside of tank

Simplest way to "move" the fork stops would be to run a bead of weld on each side of the stop tab at the front bottom of the frame neck.

Even simpler would be to cut off a short piece of rubber hose and slide that over the stop tab - not sure how permanent of a solution that would be, though.

Love it! Thats gonna look killer. You could make some side covers that mate up to the bottom of the tank. Or put the battery & electrics under a tail & just run the front of a seat pan down on a curve to line up. A buddy of mine has a 919, that tanks gotta be as wide as that 550! Gotta keep posting on your progress!

I have welded a bung for the petcock. It will be under the right hand side of the tank. I made a flange to cover the huge hole the sending unit goes in on the 919. I am working on the seat. I am thinking of putting the battery in the seat and making a small box to put all the electrics in just behind the motor.

I hope to have pics on Wednesday.


BTW. We had a sportster in the shop and I tossed the tank on it. I think it looked AWESOME. I will get a pic of it too if I remember.

I am really pulling for this to work. My CB550 tank has a leak from the side as well. Its leaking all over the place and I can see daylight from inside the tank. So if there is no way to fix it I need to do some thing and tanks are VERY hard to find that are not already leaking.

JB is working fine on my '74 where something rubbed the underside of the tank enough to make it start to leak.  Been working now for over a year I think :-\, though remembering how long ago I did anything seems to be difficult these days.  Could have been six months or three years...  hmmm..

Nonetheless, it has been working a while. ;D

Yea I am gonna have to just keep trying. The CB550 that Cleveland just sold had the tank I needed, but he wanted to sell the whole bike complete and I don't blame him.. I just did not have the cash when I was at his house. A more shady type might have done a snatch and run since no one was home when I was there early last Saturday! ;)

This is an impressive swap, and I VERY MUCH like this conversion.  I may have to get a 919 tank for my old 750 and make it look good.   my only concern is that there may be a "hump" in the center of the tank on the bottom dividing it into front and rear sections as fuel levels drop unless you modify the tank so that its level with a slight rearward slope for fuel to follow.

But its proving once again that the CB is officially THE most universal motorcycle I've ever seen, and probaby that even EXISTS anywhere.

I know it's been a while guys but I have been road racing a lemons car and it took most of my time and $$$. Well winter is hear and I am on the bike. I want to have it ready for the little sturgis rally.



I got the tail and seat from a cbr600rr. I have moved all the electrics under the tank. They fit very nice. I have a scooter battery that I will be mounting under the passenger seat that I just won on ebay. I need to clean off all the mounting tabs on the frame.

One thing that may add to that is to put on wheels from 93-01 CB Nighthawk could look very sweet! Looks good so far.
