Well Lam, just to let you know, someone is now 10. So you need to update! I kinda wish we could see who it was that is ignoring a person. I suppose it is just curiosity as knowing would not serve any purpose. Well maybe it would, it would allow a person to possibly make it right with whoever is doing the ignoring.
Oh well, that is for another post.

If you look at the bottom of a person's post, under their avatar, you'll see a button that says "ignore".  If you click this, that person's posts will no longer automatically appear in threads where you would normally see their posts.  However, their name will still appear, and a button that says "unhide" will show up that beckons you to click it to see what this unseemly person has said, which makes it nearly impossible for any mere mortal to use the "Ignore" feature as it was truly meant to be used.

As of late, and from what I have seen, it is mainly used as a form of punishment against those who have been deemed unworthy of the benefits of the sohc4 community.  The fact that many feel the need to tell someone that they are being ignored instead of just actually ignoring them only backs up this theory.

OK fine. I'll spring for the beers.

Yes, there is an ignore button at the bottom under your links below your avatar but I am not pushing it!

You're probably using an alternate format for the forum theme.  If I'm not mistaken, the "Ignore" feature only works with the forum default theme.

That must be it Gordon, I'm on the old format, I didn;t like the new one and someone told me how to keep on the old one.

Agreed.  I was on the old-style format until the "ignore" feature came about, and I switched because it seemed like a good idea.  I've tried it, though, and it doesn't work very well for me.  I can't help but click the "unhide" button on the posts from those I've tried ignoring, which pretty much defeats the whole purpose of it.

For an "ignore" feature to really work, it would have to actually make that person disappear completely, IMO.

I think people can learn a lot by studying those that they don't like - oftentimes when I find someone that really ticks me off, I'll realize I see a lot of myself in there. So no ignoring for me. If someone gets on my nerves, I have enough self control not to respond. This is the internet after all, but some people insist on treating it like seventh grade, and I'm just not wearing the right brand of shoes.

Not to hijack the thread any further - it's too bad when someone decides to leave for good. I wish him the best.
