Tires...cb550...Please don't get mad!..LOL
« on: June 18, 2009, 07:27:07 PM »
Ok...I've done searchs and read all that I could find on this subject on this forum about the tire situation but have had no real luck or real answers for what I am looking for.  I have a honda 78 cb550 and am doing a chopper/bobber type look, but would like some relatively cheap white wall tires for the bike that won't break the bank but will fit the rims (they are original I believe)...any suggestions on brands and or sizes for both whitewall tires for both front and back?  Thanks in advance....

~dd

p.s...I hope I didn't offend the tire gods..  ;D

Thanks for the reply...I'm in the US and have seen them on some bikes..and for sale..just not the correct sizes...so I am hoping someone with year of exp. or wisdom can point me in the right direction...the tires are 3.25-19 (front) and 3.75-18 (rear)....thanks in advance...

Many people will just paint the side walls. Good luck.

I believe Avon makes whitewall tires. I wouldn't call them cheap though.

Try for the metric equivalent:-
3.25=83mm
3.75=95mm

so 90/90 19 for the front and 100/90 for the rear

I typed 'whitewall motorcycle tires' into google and got 947,000 hits. Must be a match in there somewhere. I'd be inclined to hit the manufacturer sites first to see what's available, then search on that model#. Usually works for me.

You'll be hard pressed to find wide whites that fit the stock tires that aren't expensive.

Avon makes good ones. The occasional Maxxis tire might fit the stock sizes. Even Shinko will have a rear for you but not a front.

Then there's always painting them. Most people do that becuase of the mixed sizes on our bikes.

im not the most experienced but if ur willing to do the extra work u can get a rim that fits the tire u want and u can respoke it to the honda center... i saw some do this with a vw rim looked ok the rest of the bike was a little overboard

Thanks for all the info...if any one else would like to chime in, please feel free....but it look's like I'm going to get some standards for now...maybe till I pull apart the bike and revamp it in the winter....Thanks again for all the info!

I hate ordering stuff on line when I don't know exactly what I am getting, so I went to the Honda shop and had them order me a screen set for a 76 550 F and a rear tire. the tire ordered was a 110/100/ 18 when it came in it was a dirt bike tire.

since I want this bike to remain mostly stock, I settled for some vintage remakes sim to original equipment, I was looking for something a little more modern looking.

Good luck
Mark
