Where do I get a Spark Plug socket to fit my CB ?
« on: November 10, 2005, 12:27:47 PM »
Hello ,

I want to put some fresh plugs in the cb before I put it away for winter , and I don't have
a spark plug socket that will fit ! Out of my entire snap-box full of tools, not one damn socket that will fit ! :-[
Seems they have too thickk of a wall on them to grab the plug.

Anyone know of where I can get one of these ?
Are they special to Hondas / Metric bikes ?
I ask becasue the American bikes use the standard automotive sockets just fine...

I have/had the same question.  Seems an earlier post covered this:

I don't know if I did the link right, if not search for "Mystery Plug size".  It looks like 18 mm, and Sears has some that work.  That's the route I'm going to try.

I got my deep 18mm from NAPA.  Perfect fit, on the 550 anyway.  Do you have the factory tool kit?  Theres one in there.  You could try finding a factory took kit if not.

The standard 18mm sparkplug socket works fine on #1 & #4 cylinders , but you need a thin walled socket for #2 & #3.
None of my bikes had the original tool kits so I finally found an extra long thin walled socket in the lawn mower section at Sears.

I got a new factory style sparkplug tool from www.oldbikebarn.com.  I believe it is sized for a cb750 as I had to cut and drill on it a bit to get it to fit the 2 & 3 plug on my cb550.

I got one from the Honda dealer in the form of a tool kit. If you don't need the whole tool kit they can sell you just the wrench, and order a replacement for the kit. I got lucky and my local dealer had the whole kit in stock for 15 bones.

Go to Sears and apply for their credit card. When you are approved they automatically give you $10 for free. Then go get a crafstman 18mm deep walled socket for around $8. Go home, call Sears cards and cancel it..

Stick it to those corporate jack-weasels!!!!

I forgot about CRC's website, they have some great stuff.
Ordered the plug wrench from them today.

Thanks again for the input.......

I just went to my Honda dealer and asked them for a wrench...it's long, so for 2&3, I take the tank off.
