My 1st ever Track days / Photos.......
« on: June 18, 2009, 11:55:54 PM »
Saratoga Speedway on Vancouver Island.

I finally made it with the rebuilt engine in the Tracy ;D
What a hoot!  I'm hooked.

Just one other rider on a newer sport bike, an old dude like me but I was able to keep him from passing without even knowing it till we stopped for a break.  I let him take the lead on our 2nd session and kept up with him 8) Learned a lot following him ;D

Looks like a great time...you are making me jealous  ;)

Have fun and keep the pics coming!

cheers
Andy

P.S. If you are going to do some more track days you might want to invest in some leather or textile/armoured trousers....just in case  ;)

Excellent and congrats!
I am kind of surprised they let you run in street clothes though. The place near me mandates full protection. You can use a two piece suit but they prefer one piece.
Bike looks great btw.

The bike looks badass!

Great that you got it all back together and got to experience a track day.

Awesome.  Glad to see that beautiful bike being put to good use.  How big is the track?

It's a real testament to Honda how well these old bikes perform out there against modern stuff.  I was nervous about being blown off the track my first time out.  We probably won't set any lap records, but at a moderate to quick pace the old CBs have no trouble keeping up.

It is a very addictive hobby.  You might want to invest in a set of leathers now.  I hear all the cool guys are wearing white.

Nice!  Good on ya!

Our track requires full leathers too, and no glass, and like 80% tires, srs bsns!

I'm anxious to get my 750 done and push her into some country corners to see if she likes it.

It was a great experience. I was surprised how well I did against someone who races there frequently :)
I had called a head of time and asked about appropriate gear and was given a mulligan for my visit.

I know that my stock motor 78K would not have kept up with this guy and quite a few people including the track manager came over to ask a lot of questions about the motor and the bike after our sessions were over 8)

The track is short, but keeps you very busy. The corner on the left at the end of the straight away is banked, I scraped my side stand a few times there, I think that's why my hip hurts today.  I will have to grind down the mount some. Coming out of the hairpin in the right hand corner, full on in 1st, front tire would lift, 2nd gear just before the stands and barely time for a quick 3rd before shifting back to 2nd for the banked corner. Speed checked once was over 85 just before corner!!!!!!   P.S. Don't look down at your speedo just before a corner doing 85+ :o

I heard some funny front end noises on my last couple of MAD breakings at the hairpin, will have to check bike out in the garage today for any damage.

Anyone have a set of 42 tall leathers?

Sounds like a good time.  I bet the left hand side of your tires is nicely worn in now.  The track is a good environment to expose any issues with a new build.  I'd check the steering head and swingarm pivots and go over every fastener front to back with a torque wrench since you've thrashed it.  The 400f's sidestand grinds like crazy too so I just remove it.  You don't have much give there before it levers the rear tire off the ground.  One of those cheap automotive jack stands fits nicely under the left frame rail to hold it up in the pits.

Yeah, but if I remove the side stand, I would have to lean the bike against a wall when I go to the store ;D

We have a drive up liquor store 2 blocks from here for when i'm too sloshed to crawl.   ;)  that's the only kinda store I need.

I'm amazed they didn't require leathers but, whatever... YOU GOT ON THE TRACK!  WOOT!

Is that the line you took on the big wide corner... because, I have some suggestions.   ;D

NO!
I got a bit wide on the corner just before the hairpin on my 1st session and scared the poop out of myself, I was just on a slow down to get off the track at that time ;D

P.S. I think I got away without the full gear because they thought I was going to just cruise around the track........NOT!

I was referring to your squiggly line on the corner at the left hand side of the picture.   :D
I'm sure you negotiated the non-photoshop version very well.   ;)

I bet that little squiggly line was where his gaze drifted from where he was going, to a hot track girl...

Danny Walker teaches a line like the red one at his school.  Slow in, fast out.  They actually stood at the apex with a stick and smacked you if you turn in too early.  That was on little XR100's in the dirt but the idea still stands.

Not sayin' you're doing it wrong Seaweb, just sharing...because that's what we do here...share...and care.

Gonna have to talk them into letting you run it in the opposite direction to even things out!

Make sure you noncholantly mention to the track guys (and any other bike guys), that you cant wait till its broken in, and you can rev it a few grand higher.. they will like that...

You went and wore the nubs off  ;D

What gearing do you have?

Now that it's broken in (and not broken), perhaps a few more miles are due next month. Looks good enough parked in the truck to unload at West Yellowstone  ;)

I didn't ever think a Tracy body could look so good on a 750.

Especially going around a track. You, sir, are a credit to CB750's everywhere.

My hands were shaking the first time I ever went round a track. They still do just before the light turns green.

Good feeling isn't it?  ;D

Thanks for the nice comments.
I have been spending the day looking over the bike. Buddy showed up and asked me if I had my forks lowered through the triple tree on purpose?  Crap.........I guess those 90mph-10mph breaking efforts had pushed them through.  :o

We went over the entire front end and re-torqued everything. It was all in need of tightening. Seems a lot better now ;D
I may be able to attend a racing school at the track next Fri. Hope so anyway.

Getting ready for a bike show for tomorrow with "magpie" (Cliff) I'm sure he will at least come home with a trophy for his K0s'
I get a bit antsy at shows...waiting around all day......... ;)  Rather ride......... 8)

No trucking to the show.
My wife asked why I wanted her to come with me to the track and why I was trucking it the 100 miles?  I told her I wanted company, truth is I wanted someone to drive me home if I crashed. Things your wife does not need to hear.

And yes Havoc, I was scared #$%*less before each session. Once your into it though,  there is no time to be scared ;D
