Line-X / Rhino liner painted CB750?
« on: June 09, 2010, 01:43:57 pm »
Just curious about everyone's opinions and experiences with using Line-X or Rhino liner to paint a bike instead of conventional auto paint.

Do you think it looks good?
Does it cause any problems?
Does it protect well? (will anything rust?)
What happens if you get a dent? Does everything start going all to hell?

I'd recommend Duplicolor bed liner first, because you can DIY.

Stood up to gas pretty well after getting all but saturated with it. :P

Not sure about what happens when you dent it, but it blends pretty well if you need to respray a spot.

+1 on the Duplicolor bed liner. It seems alot thinner than the rhino liner. More 'paint' like. More of a sandpaper texture and seems more solid than rubbery.

I appreciate the suggestion since I'm usually all about DIY. The sandpaper texture is a step in the right direction but I really think I want to either go all out texture or nothing at all.
The duplicolor seems like a viable option but the reason I was considering Line-x is because I want something that doesn't look like paint. I think the rubbery texture/appearance is cool because it looks different (more original?).

If I do Line-X it I was thinking about doing white paint and black line-x (like a panda, haha) but I'm not entirely sure what will go where. Should I line-x the tank, seat and fenders and paint the frame white? Or do the opposite?

My inspiration:

That changes things for me . . . in a good way, I think.
This project started in confusion and will end in disarray.

yeah, the duplicolor stuff looks like that but softer, more like a leather look.

i'm going to have to say no-go to duplicolor.  it fades REALLY fast, and turns gray...  even with a clear coat, it doesn't look good.  i'm a STRONG advocate for raptor liner, i have it on my truck on the rocker panels, bumpers and fender flares.  this stuff is REALLY nice.  same quality as line-x but at 1/4 of the price!  i've used duplicolor on my frame, and other tid bits, and it doesn't go on evenly, or hold it's color well enough for me.  the raptor is BLACK, and it's even tintable.

just my $.02 since i've seen it on a LOT of rigs that used to have duplicolor/herculiner/etc...

oh WOW! thanks for that! definitely the best combination of DIY and true line-x type liner.
