SOHC4 Ton Club
« on: June 22, 2009, 07:32:47 AM »
Last thread I posted in... people couldn't stay on topic even after I posted about the original topic... SO I MADE A NEW ONE.   8) :-* 8)
Now... go out there and Ton UP and let us know about it!

BTW... I thought we had a Ton thread started like this... where we brag, etc.   ;)  only threads I could find were questions about it, etc.  Lemme know if you find one, and I'll move this there.

A Ton is:

Getting up at 7:30am on a Saturday with the girl... Not showerin' and going out first thing to polish the little cb350f.  We we're headed for a poker run that started in Denver.  Our buddy bought our tickets and said come ride.  Turnout was a joke, but hey, the odds were stacked in our favor.  We still had no winning hands.  ha ha.
But later in the evening, when we held 11 out of 12 raffle tickets... we won a 3 day stay for two in Vegas... Vegas baby, Vegas!

We trekked about 175 miles all around the Denver Metro chasing the high or low draw.  The 12 of us were enjoying some nice twisties and scenery... and I got nailed being in the front of the pack... HiPo actually came up thru the pack to pull me over.  He asked a few leading questions and I knew all the answers.  Like "would you pull me over if I was doing 62mph in a 35?"... I said "I was doing 62?" with a puzzled look.  He told me not to double the speed limit and sent me on my way with a warning.  Phwew!

The, mostly Harley, crowd was gaining respect for the little bike... Elizabeth told me that one of them came up and said "what is that? that thing's fast!"
4 of us got separated and took an accidental detour which led us up in the foothills a bit... as we were coming back down on a nice stretch of straight deserted highway w/ concrete barriers separating me from the opposite 2 lanes, I nailed it.  Dropping in elevation fast and it didn't want to pull that Ton, only about 95... then, I hit bottom and I think it found a little more air to breath, even w/ a slight incline, it ponied up and hovered at 102mph for about 15 seconds screaming its head off.

And, as the speed-limit was 65, I followed the officers order and did not double the speed limit.   Cool

Oh, last time I did a ton on an SOHC was when I broke the 750. Following Jon on his freakin Ducati, trying to keep up.
I figure 125+ in 3rd (somewhere around 10krpm)  on the long left hand sweeper near Jewel.
Hit the ton quite frequently on the kz650, no cool stories about it, though, it did the ton so damned easily and quickly, if you weren't careful, you were there immediately.
No.

I hit the Ton on my 78 when I rode it home after purchasing it. It was a 10 minute ride and it blew everything either out the pipes or between the base and head..

Best (and only) ride on it so far. I tore it down right after that. Been almost 10 years now.

My 750 hasn't seen the ton with me in the seat yet, soon soon I'll take it for a real non-neighborhood test something or another ride!

First bike ton I ever did though, was on an 81ish KZ440LTD.  Dirt bike bars, small suzuki front fender, chopped 4 inches off the back fender, fun stuff.  Took FOREVER to get it there, buddy was pacing me on his zx10, laughing most of the time I think, as my speedo didn't go that high or something.  Was a good starter bike, wish I still had it.

I hit 108 on a huge straight away at about 2 am on highway 169 south.

I love my 550.

Spedometer read about 112 NB on 635 downhill from Gibbs Rd. so I figured I was doing at least a ton.
Quite fun indeed.

Hit about 120 on my original 750 in fifth with 3-400rpm left to go.... shut it down cause i kept getting blown off the tank. Rebuilding that one now so that I can have fun kicking a$$ with a sohc4.

that's about how much I had left too... which, in my mind, is close enough to redline on my antique motorcycle!

Man, I must be doing my math wrong, cause I get 145mph at 8100 rpm on a stock 18/48 110/90/18 cb 750  ???
No.

Are you guys correcting for the inaccurate speedo or taking the direct reading?

so, do we refer to you for just how inaccurate each of our speedos are?
would you like us to count the seconds it takes to go a mile as we're running 100?

stop being a stickler and just tell your story.   :P

I know Heff, but when you are reading 145 on a stock 750?

I thought stock these things (750's) maxed out at 120?

I've hit in the neighborhood of 130 on the cb750. Measured against other bikes 'correct' speedos.
No.

me too... but, since we're talking about the TON here... the extra 45mph don't mean a thing.   ;)  ;D

I did not know downhill counted. I was being chased by a semi in the Mountains in Orange County Ny and when I hit the bottom and started up the next hill I looked down and she was just coming down to 100. Had no idea how fast i was going, I do know I was shotting my pants.

I have tonned on flat ground, that was just the last time I remember opening it up and going a ton was downhill.

I try to keep it closer to the legal limit these days, my last ticket cost me $245 cash.

The CR750 ran 127mph electronicaly timed with the old stock motor. 8) 8) 8) We never got to run with the full streamliner with the big motor due to high cross winds on the day. >:( >:( >:(

The little 175 reached 102 mph at the end of the quarter in 13.4 seconds and around 120 in 26 seconds at the end of the kilo. ::)

It'll be intresting to find what the big tuned auto will do. ;)

Broke the ton on the M-39 Southfield Freeway in the early 70's.  Right through a MSP radar trap.  Killed the lights and got off at the next exit and watched him fly by.  Took the side streets home.  Never again. ::)

At the top end of the redline in 3rd gear. Most I've seen on it was 125 when I, not the bike, quit.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)
