motorcycle dryer
« on: June 22, 2009, 09:21:08 PM »
In the past, washing the 750 at the (then) 25cent carwash left hardwater deposits on stuff (like coil wires) and caused problems. I could see wires sparking in the dark. One day I saw an electric dryer in one of those upscale parts calalogues and they claimed that it would blow the water off the bike before the hard water could dry on it and screw up the paint (and I'm thinking - the coils). But the thing was $200 or so. I had a leaf blower and figured it could put out more air than an electric so I went to Sears and bought $40 worth of stuff, made an adaptor plate from wood and, voila, a bike dryer. Worked great.

That jigger is so cool, we should have an "Invention of the Month" section here, to compliment the "Bike of the Month" section, some of you guys are really, really smart!

I've used my air compressor before, but large volumes of clean air from a leaf blower would be much better, or maybe a powerful fan heater with a hose and a nozzle would be even better again? Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Perhaps we could call it "MacGyver Solutions"  ;)

Actually though, "Tips and Tricks" should cover this sort of thing.

Hopter - I was worried about propelling dust, bugs & whatnot at the bike at high velocities and, not wanting to sandblast the bike, decided an air filter would be prudent.

I have always used the leaf blower in it's stock form, but this is far more elegant. A tip I learnd from a Car Dealer is to open open all the car doors and windows and blow out your the interior of your car with a leaf blower.

Did it finally grow back after the last time he had her check to see if a fuel tank was still flamable??  :o

That is a great idea, wish I had a leaf blower.

we all vote on it like bike of the month... it doesn't have to be a top 10.  Tips and tricks is everything including inventions, products, general tips, etc.  I think terry was talking about a thread devoted to inventions people find, make, discover, etc.

Dust/debris has never been a problem, I am mostly aiming downward and on a clean paved surface.  It gets all of the water out of the nooks and crannies in a hurry.

Yeah kinda, I really don't like voting for "bike of the month", or "babe of the month", or "schlong of the month", or any of that stuff, it makes the "runners up" feel a tad disappointed that their own invention didn't cut it, I just like some of the innovative solutions to problems we all encounter that you guys keep coming up with, and I'd like to see them recognized for the excellent ideas that they are. No need to vote, just appreciate. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I agree with Terry, and I think he has neamed the thread. I would simply call the thread "Solutuions Thread" or maybe a section.
There is so much wisdom and talent among the membership it is a daunting task to root it all out using search. The Forum is huge and I feel that we need to start collecting and sorting some of this wisdom by topic.
Now having said that, this should not fall upon Glenn, Bob, Steve or the Mods, we need volunteers to sort through topics and find those posts which have best practices in them, and get those best practices. We, have steering head bearings, carbs, ignition etc. i have to tell you will find more in this Forum than you can find in any manual.

What do you all think?

I think it's a good idea too but NO voting. I also suggest the author LOCK the thread to keep it short, sweet and simple. Any questions should be directed to the author via PM or email. At that point, should the author feel the need to make clarifications or explanations, said author can go back and include additions, explanations, clarifications, etc. If we do this let's NOT make this a discussion, comment, or an argument thread.     (ie Terry's wife's blow dryer  ;))

Yes Jerry, there should be no voting. The author puts up their work and if a member feels they would like to use that procedure or fab that tool, they do it. If anorher member has another solution or approach to the same repair or improvement, they post that one. Individuals members would then chose which procedure they fancy and that is it. No "this one is better than that one", they may be different, but both be equally effective.
