bowl gaskets too long?
« on: November 12, 2005, 03:12:51 PM »
Hi everyone, I'm new.  Just got a CB350F and have been going through the bike bit by bit.  This is my first vintage motorcycle.

My question has to do with the float bowl gasket fitment.  I've been setting the float levels and generally checking carb internals and it seems like half the time the gaskets are a major pain to fit.  They seem too long.  Is there some trick to making them fit?  I actually got new gaskets I recently put in, but it seems they've stretched since I put them in.  Am I crazy?  Am I doing something wrong?

Same thing happend to me, but before it did I had a gasket that broke.  So I put the broken gasket back in and put a dab of black silocone at the break.  No Leaks.  Later I took the bowls off again and the other three had grown as yours did.  So I cut a small piece out of each and put a dab of silicone at the break and so far so good.

Ah!  I thought maybe I'd do that, but then I wasn't sure if that was kosher.  Thanks.

welcome Al.

i had te same problem with my K8...it just take a bit of finesse...the swell when they get reintroduced to the oxygen...they will shrink back in a hour or so...

The O Rings on my 550 were a bit large, it took a bit of finessing, but they will go in.

try putting them in the icebox for a while before installing them. silicone will find its way into your float bowls, and you don't want the clog in passageways that will result. Nothing more frustrating than a tear down over something you implement as a stop gap measure...

I'll give that a shot. I'd rather not cut them if there's a way.
