Crazy kids - what would you have done?
« on: June 23, 2009, 12:07:16 PM »
Seems like people are going crazy lately... lots of these types of threads lately.

On Sunday I went out with my girlfriend for a walk in my hometown.  There's a really peaceful (...well, normally it's peaceful...) nature trail near a stream in my town.  We parked in the parking lot and had walked to one end and was making our way back to the car.  We passed some teenagers and a middle-aged couple walking a dog.  Everyone's friendly.  So far, so good.

Just after we passed the couple with the dog, four young kids (18-20-ish) came by.  One girl and three guys.  They had been tubing down the stream.  I nodded hello to them, not all at the same time because they weren't exactly walking together.  The girl was in front, followed by a boy, and then the two others about 20 feet farther back.  When I saw the last two boys it was instantly clear that they were very drunk.  They could barely walk straight.  I'd be surprised if they were legal drinking age.

Everything was cool until the last boy passed.  When he saw me and my girlfriend, he raised his arms in the air in that "Victory! Hey! We just won the superbowl" kind of way and started yelling "Party! party! party!...."  (If I wasn't sure before, that confirmed my suspicion that they were drunk.)

We passed without incident, but the boy took offense that I "didn't say anything."  Well... if he hadn't been shouting "Party! party, party" like a fool, he might have heard me say hello...

My girlfriend and I kept walking, and we got out of view because the trail curves around, but we could hear that fool shouting that he wanted to '#$%* me up' and carrying on like the court jester.  The girl he was with was trying to calm him down, and I don't know what the other two boys were doing, but they were at least quiet, whatever they were doing.

That fool kept going and going, so I stopped, turned around, and yelled back, "I said 'hello'.  Are you going to be okay, buddy?"

For a split second, that fool kind of acted like he made a mistake not hearing me and that it was his bad.  I don't recall what exactly I heard, but it sounded like he was calming down.  But only for a split second.

Then that clown started in again.  Saying stuff like they should #$%* me up and #$%* my girlfriend.  Well, gee... I guess we can't all be blessed with brains.

Anyway, I was fine until my girlfriend got scared and said she never wanted to come back.  That's when I got pissed.  But we calmly kept walking and left those fools to themselves.

I was never afraid that I'd get beat up.  If they had been sober, that would have been another story - I might have #$%* my pants.  But they were so drunk I wouldn't have gotten seriously hurt.  In fact, I really think they would have been separated from their teeth.  I would've dispatched the loudmouth kid in a hurry, in case his friends decided to dance too.  If it came to me having to turn around, there would have been no more talking.  Pitbulls don't talk before the fight.

If I could do over, I'm not sure I wouldn't have turned around and either got the #$%* kicked out of me, or kicked the #$%* out of three drunk punks.  I'm pretty pissed when I think about it.

Has anything like this ever happened to you?  What would you have done?

Thanks in advance for reading and your input,
soichiro

Walk away when you can, beat them down so hard they can't get up and continue fighting when you can't.

just punch everyone you see in the face, immediately, to avoid situations like that altogether.

I forgot to mention that they were all in flip-flops - another reason why I wasn't too afraid.  They would have came out of those flip-flops pretty quick, and dancing around on rocks in your bare feet is no picnic.

Maybe I should have stole their flip-flops and ran like hell... screaming 'party party party'....

Or you could have asked them a (theoretical) physics question, then left them to argue, and quietly meandered off. :)

Walk! If you don't and you turn around and flatten them, who goes to court charged with assault, now if your life or your girl friends life is threatened crush them any way you can and take the hassles.

I'd just keep walking. Unless you thought you were in some serious danger of not being able to escape, what would have getting into a fight have got you? They have three friends (witnesses) who could have said you threaten him....etc. I have been in several situations like this, some in my line of work. One I will share with you.

I was walking out of Home Depot one day, I was entering the crosswalk to the parking lot when a car (about 10 yards from where I was at) slammed on his brakes, gave me the finger and gunned his car. I guess he thought I was taking his "right of way" that he didn't have. I froze like a deer in the headlights. He smashed his brakes and the front bumper of his car tap'd my leg. I screamed something at him and proceeded towards my car, when he jumped out of the car after me. I kept backing up, and backing up, and yelling for him to stop. I probally step back 15-20 steps. I told him to not make me defend myself and get back in his car. He gave me a snarl and ran to his car and speed off. This man has no idea how close he came to death. While I was backing up I had my right hand under my jacket on my leagally carried .45 auto. I know if I would had no other option I would have shot him, but the point is that I did have other options. The lesson I learned from this is that if you can escape with a small hit to your pride, do it. Your life and you future is more important than being macho.

Well, you would have had to kill the girl too, and hide the bodies in the woods. You can't leave any witnesses you know. Its better you walked away.

you did the right thing, let him throw the first punch. if he does THEN all bets are off

Me being the hot head I am as soon as I heard him say he should "f#ck me up" I would have went back and egged them on untill they did attack then crush them.

You are a better man than me, I have no temper at all. I think you did the right thing, though if it was a place I enjoy going to and the girlfriend said she was scared to go there, I would have probably went and messed them up.

Has anything like this ever happened to you?

I had some skanky "punk" ask me for a smoke and I told her to piss off, she had earlier in the evening been screwing around with my daughter's mom who was pregnant at the time, she had gone and fetched her boyfriend and friends and they came out talking trash and I didn't react till one shook his fist at my daughter's mom, I lost it instantly. It ended badly for everyone involved except my daughter's mom.

I wish all problems could be solved with a baseball bat with nails driven through it. :P  People worry me all the time.  I'd have been seriously concerned, being a chick. Then again, I might be able to take 'em, too.

If I was in your situation: with my lady, I would have walked away too.  No sense getting into some crap that would require me to defend myself and my lady.  If I were alone,  that's a different story.  Ass whoppin's are free, and being a major distributor I would have given them all two for the price of one.  Being drunk doesn't give anyone the right to be an a-hole, no matter how young or old they are.  You did the right thing.   ;)

Sometimes, it's a bit hard to do, but I think you did the right thing also. No sense in taking a chance of your girl getting hurt AND yet, I can clearly understand why you'd like to have busted them too! Clearly, they were drunken idiots and not worth your time. It IS a shame that you can't go on an outting without having an experience like that. :-\

It seems like there are plenty of #$%*s to go around out there......not much has changed.....been that way as far back as I can remember. Everyone that has posted to this has made good points. Just remember.....if you go off half cocked and taking people on like that.....you really don't know if they are packing or not. Probably better just to steer clear even IF they appear to be easy to take out. If your woman feels uneasy going back to that location (sounds like a place set up for normal, peace loving people to go)....I might have tried to get a plate # or something and report it. I am by no means a snitch but I hate to see brain dead people take over places like that. What is with all this gangsta sh!T anyways???? Is it COOL to intimidate people behind the cover of a gang? The word pussy comes to mind. I can remember way more than once where some jack-off got in my face around his friends and I called him on it. I would think after walking away with a bloody nose.....you would feel a bit stupid and maybe learn a lesson in life!!!!

On further consideration of the situation I have come to the conclusion you should have destroyed their faces, and here is why:

A.) They are under age and drunk, they would not have gone to the cops.

B.) The next poor sucker that runs into those fools may have a worse outcome.

C.) It is a sure thing that this will happen again as there was no negative result to this kid acting like a dip $h!t.

So in sumation, I think the next time you see that kid you should take it to his face real good and then when he is on the brink of unconsciencness, remind him to bite his tounge.
