The F side covers are unique. I think I recall that 77-78 K side covers would fit.  But, they are different shapes.  I'm pretty sure this was discussed in an old thread a while back.

the mounting hole patterns are the same. the K is bigger in size, it covers more of the airbox.

No, the early k cover have a different mount orientation.  They'll fit if you break off a mounting pin.  But, then there is the retention issue.  ::)

I bought a 550K left side cover and it fits my '75 550F.  Here are pics of it.  I can take a pic of it on the bike if necessary.  It fits securely in place with all three tabs engaged in the grommets with no mods to bike or cover.   And yes, VIN on frame verifys it is an F.

I too balked at the going price for an F side cover at this time.  I'll wait until this one is bugging me.  I do prefer the F looks wise.  The later 550K cover is much more similar to the F "triangle" shape which I would recommend over this style for appearance's sake.  This is just the one I ended up with for cheap and is functional.

before i decided to do away with my side cover problem i got a left and a right side cover for my 550F the left side was a realy tight fit but the right side one of the pins would aline up with one of the holes i believe that the sides was from a K model ... good luck finding what you need.
