If You Own Firearms or Are An NRA Member.....
« on: June 24, 2009, 04:36:47 AM »
I Read....

.....postings on another thread that made me wonder if many people look behind or into the products or services that they are willing to pay for.

As a pretend for instance, you buy Knickerbocker's Do All Shoes because they are the best.  Do you keep buying them when you find out that Knickerbocker's supports child slavery in TimBuckToo?

How about (this is more realistic) this: Would you buy Alpo dog food if you found out that Alpo supports the 2nd Amendment and believes that Americans are guranteed the right to firearms?

Would you not subscribe to CNN cable channels if you found out that CNN wants to take away your firearms and donates hundreds of thousands of dollars to that end?

In short, as gun owners....... would you put your money where your mouth is?

I have always been curious about this....... Am I the only one?

Feel free to add postings relating experiences you have had or have done about companies or individuals whom have come down on one side or the other about this predicament.

As an example, I have gone to concerts...... to learn later the group/performer I was supporting had been donating money to take away my Springfield.

Good Grief razor,

That's a staggering sized list for the NRA to stand against!
But, that is what the NRA is dedicated to doing.
By the way, thank you for posting the link.

I try to avoid businesses that do not allow me to carry my firearm legally onto their premises and pay my annual dues to the NRA.  I also watch CNN, MSNBC, and other channels to get a balanced view of things.  All channels have a political slant to it but fox news is the worst offender.  They tend to make news out of nothing and not report other happenings if it suits there political agenda.
Sorry raz but Rush is just plain insane.  Anyone that can be so one-sided, closed-minded scares the crap out of me.  There is usually some validity to an opposing argument and to completely dismiss that does nothing but entrench the opposition.  Extremists on both sides are dangerous.  Somewhere in the middle lies reasonable compromise.
Back to the original question, no I would not boycott a business simply because they have a differing opinion than I do but I do shy away from those that wish to impose that opinion on others.  It's all kinds of shades of gray.

I did just paint a nice big target on my back, didn't I???

There are a lot more of "them" the "us".  That was proven with the last election (not the president)  A damn near filibuster proof senate...  If they wanted to ban something they would be able to.  Not just guns but passing crappy "stimulus" bills...who do they stimulate?  Anyway this topic is about guns so I encourage people to visit the NRA.org website and read some articles.

We are always hearing about shooting here and shooting there but never hear about how store owner saves his life and a customer's life cause he had a CCW.  Or how a home invasion was averted cause the woman inside had a shot gun.  The general media is very very biased.  There are a lot of stories of people using guns as a deterrent or to prevent a crime...A lot of times people didn't even need to fire a shot and the criminal runs... Why do we never hear about them from the news media?

We-I do, the CBC which is supposedly a communist organization reported on a jewelry store owner that went after a bandit with a shot gun and was charged by the cops even though he'd been robbed many times and the tenor of the story was definitely sympathetic to him whether he'd used a gun or not, the law wasn't but the media was so if you've got good unbiased reporters the truth will out.

Wanna bet?

In moorhead MN, there was a shooting. A 17 year old wanna be ganger who was apparently hopped up on sherm sticks broke into 3 apartments. Two he did nothing but the third one he struggled with a middle aged guy. The Guy grabbed a shotgun and the kid grabbed the barrel and fought with him. the guy shot the kid in the chest and killed him.
A successful home defense using a gun. yes it resulted in a death but the there you go. The news here has covered it very well. This guy also looks to NOT be facing any charges of any kind. Of course a wrongful death suit may happen but as the kid and father of the teen both have some run ins with the law, I doubt it will go too far.
Also to remove the "political" slant some might try to claim, our news here leans to the "liberal" side somewhat.

As for major news channels, I would not watch any of them. I watch local and get the rest online through multiple sources. I would turn my tv off before watching faux news. their slogan should be "we report AND decide for you."

Anyways, I do like to know what companies do what but it can be very hard to trace things down. So many companies are owned by other companies and then owned by some large corporation. It can be very hard sometimes to find dirt on them.

Also, to remove MY slant, I am not liberal, I am not "conservative. I fall under the libertarian group. Little fed govt, more state power, NO christian leanings, more self responsibility. I believe in the constitution and the bill of rights. I LOVE guns BUY I do favor gun control in the form that a person should have instruction in the use of a gun and regular training if they own one. And if a person is crazy, maybe they should not have one or at least be gauged on their level of crazy and be limited to certain calibers.
no banning of guns but an untrained person is more danger to others then some criminals.

As George Carlin said, "There is a difference between a maniac and a crazy person. A maniac might beat 9 people to death with a steel dildo, a crazy person will beat 9 people to death with a steel dildo while wearing a bunny suit!" ;D

IMO..... (to qualify this, my opinion is not an argument but a statement so let's not go there)

I avoid talk radio.

Rush is a radical #$%* that only tries to get rich off of stirring #$%* up.

Rush is/was a drug addict and prescription forger/doctor shopper that should have been in prison.

I have a concealed carry. I believe in people's rights to own weapons. I approve of the Pharmacist in Oklahoma City that took out the scumbug armed robber some referred to as killing a child. I do not condone him coming back and grabbing the second pistol and unloading his clip into him however. At least we don't have to pay for incarceration now.

As far as my purchases go, I purchase from people/companies that want my business by providing good service and prices. Sometimes the service issue takes precedent over price. I work hard for what I have and mostly stay out of people's policital BS.

My next question to everyone is - Do you only buy goods and services from your country of origin?!

Don't know what gun grabbing is.
Don't know what knickerbockers are.
Don't know what your Springfield is.

Tell you what I'll do... buy my guns and not worry about what may or may not happen.
If they want to come take them away... let them try.

I'm gonna go sit in the corner now  ... this thread will only get more heated and politically ridiculous.

Let Me Try To Focus Myself,

I walk into Starbucks and buy a $3 to $5 cup of coffee.

I learn later that Starbucks does donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to anti-gun organizations who want to pull gun ownership from Americans. Period.

Do I choose to keep going back to Starbucks and spend money to help Starbucks donate money to organizations who, with part of my own money which I am supplying, take away my rights to a gun?

Do I put my money where my mouth is, since I own a gun?

That's what this is all about.  Will you perhaps deprive yourself of something you want, so as not to perhaps jeopardize your ownership of firearms?

Does that mean if you oppose your federal government you should stop paying your income taxes or work under the table because that tax money supports an institution that you do not believe in??

Just broadening the scope a little.......

You can do that in Canada?!    ;D ;D ;D

Problem is people already do that in the states...and go to jail.  Your talking about something completely different.  We are talking about buying goods and services not refusal to pay tax.  One is a legal protest the other is not.

There is no law on the books that says you are required to pay US federal income tax.

They bust you for other things like the people in Maine or New Hampshire got busted for.

The Brown family in New Hampshire, they got them on weapons charges, not non-payment of taxes.

Guns don't kill people, people with guns kill people.

I'm just curious how it was decided which companies would go on the ominous LIST OF ANTI-GUN COMPANIES & PEOPLE.  Would a "No weapons allowed in the office (including knives, guns, bombs, etc)" rule make the company anti-gun?

http://www.wmur.com/news/19844435/detail.html

Actually, they were convicted of tax evasion. The gun charges arose from a stand-off with the police following their tax evasion conviction.
