Hi guys
Well, getting the key to turn in the lock was getting to be a more and more hit and miss affair until the weekend when it would just not turn on, regardless of the jiggling.
Stripped the back of the ignition(Black plastic bit), bridged the ignition and got home.

fiddled a bit more with the key...nada.
Eventually managed to get the cir clip off the back and the barrel came out. What had happened was the springs and"lock teeth",(brass studs)for want of a better word(tumblers?) were worn beyond recognition.Further 35 yrs of key motion had worn the opposite side of the barrel down until the barrel wall was paper thin.

Short of getting a replacement unit(not so easy out here) are there ignitions similar from other Honda's?
Other years/makes? and a longshot..., does anyone know of a similar barrel?

I know this might be in vain but it's appreciated. ;)

Cheers

I would stick with the Honda brand if you can afford it.  There are other posts here and I am sure some guys will chime in on some aftermarket units that left them stranded.  Think of it as a 1 time buy.  I really do not think you can go wrong with a Honda part.

Mine 75 has a aftermarket looking switch mounted on the handlebar bolts, throttle side.

Easy access, if you are interested, I can send you a picture.

I'm turning it into a drag bike, might make you a deal.....
