Need help with decision fast
« on: June 24, 2009, 08:41:34 AM »

I am pushing a guy on a magna 1995c to drop the price a little it has 17k ...runs great needs inspection.2000 bucks is what he wants

Then I came across a 1996 Triumph Adventurer. with 12k 1700 is what he wants. he says needs fork seals and rear tire soon.

I like both these bikes looking for an open opinion on which way to go.

I'd probably take the adventurer. More of a standard. Though the 750 magna does have some serious get up and go.
No.

Sorry, I would have to disagree, the triumph has more cc's but less horsepower & torque. The magna would eat it up in a start from second gear. I have ridden both and own the magna.... nuf said? worth the extra 3 bills and then some. as in the other thread, that same bike normally sells for a grand more than he is asking. pull the trigger, you won't regret it.

He said the magna was faster.
Both bikes look cool. Parts are probably cheaper on the honda, and you probably know more about hondas.
It would be neat to have an OLD triumph, buuuuuut, that one's not old.
I'd tell him what you could go buy for 1700 and take cash in hand, see what he says.
Something like this, " Hey yea, you have a nice bike, I have 1700 cash right now, I can either buy yours RIGHT NOW or go buy this triumph. Either way I'll have a bike today. What'dya say?"

Read my post again. I said "the magna has some serious get up and go." I did not say the triumph was faster, only that I liked it more. The magna would shame the triumph in a straight line.

/edit: yeah, what ink said.
No.

Google the triumph or try and find parts for it. Go from there.

Personally I'd go for the Magna.  When in good shape they run like a fine watch, and parts are sure to be more plentiful then for the Triumph.

The magna engine also has the dreaded V4 valve issue, though, too....

The magna engine also has the dreaded V4 valve issue, though, too....

Not the 3rd gen magna (1994+).  Honda finally fixed that.  it was an issue with oil supply to the top end, which in earlier magnas was fixed with an external kit to route additional engine oil to the valve covers.  The 3rd Gen magnas did not suffer from this problem.  The 1994 only did have a bit of a quirk in which the oil supply to the sides of the cams was insufficient (factory recall to enlarge the oil ports) but by 1995 that too was fixed and the engine remained trouble free until Honda quite making the magna in '03.  Any 1995-2003 Magna has no problems oiling the cams.

My vote is for the Magna.  Easier to work on, easier to find parts for, and just plain better looking  ;D

bikes are about cool and being yourself. how many triumphs do you see around? I'd take it over the magna... just to be different!
