what's this thing worth?
« on: June 24, 2009, 05:54:07 PM »
So I'm looking for a project bike and I found this. My concern is that it may be beyond repair. It has a stuck motor, no side covers, no airbox, the carbs look like #$%*, the frame has a lot of rust and some very half assed modifications, the forks are leaking and rusted, the tank is dented, no seat, exhaust is rotted, the list goes on. Now for a project bike I'm thinking I would probably want to start with a few more useable parts than what this bike has. Am I expecting too much out of a project bike? Is this the sort of thing I should expect from a project? How much would you pay for this bike?

I just need some advice.

Wow. Considering you can pick up a running machine in reasonable shape for $500ish if you wait it out - not much. Mine was in pretty reasonable shape when I got it and parts and whatnot STILL blew my tiny mind by the time it was all done. Course I'm cheap too.

$100 as a bike to steal parts from when you get the one you really want to work on?  ;D

They would have to pay me $ 100.00 to haul it away. That is a sorry looking bike, looks to have been in a front end crash.

I've seen worse bikes get brought back to life, but that particular bike is not one that I would take on as a project.

Alright, that's all I needed to hear. I'm not going to waste my time then.

I offered a lot more than that for a 71 with no tank, no seat, no guages,  wrong forks..160, 000 miles on untouched lower end. :o but

1 owner (used to ride with him)

Has reggie(important to me)

1 owner bike

Has the front part of that cool AAA header, the twisted one..

a front Morris mag

I can find 73s or newer all over the place, but I want an early one.. so I offered him 400 bux.. he turned me down, but I think he is thinking on it.. But having owned it since new, he has seperation anxiety..

What kind of project were you looking to turn it into?  If the frame is straight and has clean paperwork you can fix most of the rest of the stuff with some elbow grease.

How's the tank look inside?  The outside looks alright apart from that one dent.

Don't ask me ! I'm a sucker for rusty old heaps ! I will admit 400 dollaros for a '78K 750, stuck motor 16K. miles, clean title, rusted tank, KandQ seat!

Agreed...pass on that one.  We did not even mention the electrical problems with the numerous splices I see there.  Parts bike only...$100 max.
