Transformers 2 :(
« on: June 25, 2009, 05:59:36 AM »
Man, after waiting forever for Hollywood to redeem themselves with the crappy 1st movie, I think 2 is equally crappy. Great effects and cool action scenes, but comon, the dialog, The Twins, the juvenile sexual jokes were all tired.

Im tired of shelling out money to see crap at the theatre.

Spoiler Alerts:

Spoiler Alerts:

Jetfire is a what??? A Blackbird jet? Why is he old and barely functional? Megatron is older than Jetfire. Although, I liked the Jetfire character. He was different and distinguishable.

The Twins - just a huge mistake. Stupid on so many levels. Reminded me of the Jar-Jar Binks debacle.

Girl transformer with the tongue - just dumb

Mom getting high on campus - served no purpose and added time to the already lengthy movie

Adding the S7 guy to the movie - also dumb although his character fit better than in the first movie

I wanted more Star Scream and got him, but still wanted a little more. He was always my favorite.

Transformers bleed when punched in the face? Is that Transmission fluid? Weird.

Sigh.

And the critics come out. I loved the first movie, saw it twice in theatres. I will see this one in theatres too. I think you all forgot how truly bad the transformers cartoon was. With its shifting timelines and very basic plot with never changed. So many gripe about lips on a transformer. Obviously they forgot that was in the original cartoons too. Grimlok had a tongue. Gee who knew. But hey, the more people that think it is bad, the less people in the theatre when I go!  Besides, batman sucks but that is more of a bale issue and not as much a nolan issue but when it comes to big action, bay is best.

Oh btw, I likes T3 also but not T2.

Always remember, if you do not like a movie, fine but you should either write a better one of just remember that it is only a movie. ;)

I loved the X-Men movies (except part 3), Lord of the Rings, Spider Man 1 and 2, Iron Man, and they dont follow exact storylines, but I dont care about that. I like a good movie. These two Transformer movies are just poorly done and seem choppy from one scene to the next with a strange flow.

Im more complaining that it's just a bad movie because it's a bad movie. And I have the right to complain because of the price I pay for the tickets and rearend-reaming popcorn price.

You do have the right but have you forgotten how action movies work? The scenes are usually choppy. You should be happy though as we could still have the crappy action movies from the 80s. you know where every car no matter how gutless it is and how slow it slows is always making a spinning tire sound even when they arent! or how the hero can take on 30 soldiers with machine guns and he has a pistol and never has to reload. but we have had truly bad movies such as the matrix but then reeves' best character was Ted in excellent adventure and bogus journey! ;D

guess I just got tired of the griping when star wars came out. So many said it was bad but they never had a real reason other than not liking anakin or jarjar. Sure jarjar was annoying and mistake but that doesnt ruin the whole movie. And of course anakin HAD to be a kid. Anyways, thats just me.

Bash away but I bet you secretly WANTED to see robot testicles! ;D

I cant really say anything about the Star War movies since Im not really a fan. Although JarJar was completely annoying....

As far as action movies from the 80's goes, it's called learning from out past mistakes.  ;)

The preview for "The Last Airbender" looks like it has promise. My son loves that cartoon.

haven't seen yet but, I use to work @ Hasbro. Most of the employees I know said the same thing you guys are. A little bit in left field with this one.  unfortunately these things happen when you get too many ideas in one pot. It becomes a little off story. Again I haven't seen it yet and I will probably like it. From what I hear, the dick and ball jokes get old quick though.

Seriously, when I watched transformers, at the end, I took a drink of my wine, turned to my girlfriend and said ".....what?"
No.

I did that with the first one. TOTALLY engrossed in the flick, barely even noticed the idiot behind me kicking my chair.

Okay, I think the biggest story change of recent movies has to be the latest Star Trek movie.  And considering it is a pre-quel, it totally changes Trek history.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

It changes some thing but I dont think drastically but then I never read all the trek books and such. I do think it gives a very good start though. It was an excellent flick.

Personally, I am one of those people who prefers things to be true to the original. I watched transformers growing up (Generation 2, which was the original episodes with opening, scene transition changes), so I went into the original movie with SOME expectations.

I understand that you simply can't regurgitate a storyline, so I really don't mind some play with plot/characters. However, I really wanted to see megatron as a gun and I needed to see starscream shoot him. Sorry, I needed that, and instead I saw some jet with little interaction with starscream at all.

As for the second one, soundwave was a...helicopter? And no classic soundwave voice?

For what it was, I'd say it was a decent movie that dragged on. For transformers, I was utterly disappointed. Oh well.

I thought Soundwave was the satelite in space? His voice mimicked Soundwave's.

I didnt mind seeing Megatron not being a gun. Cool toy, but wouldnt translate well on the big screen. Why do the autobots looks better as robots than the decepticons? Starscream looks odd when he's a robot.

You're right! I got confused there. He was the satellite...but no tape deck in his chest....

For me growing up there were 3 or 4 favorite cartoons, #1 Transformers, Gi Joe (the movie looks cool and has potential), He-Man, Thundercats.

....Ummm...Michael Bay isnt doing GI Joe, right? Please tell me he's not....

Nah, Stephen Sommers of The Mummy fame is behind GI Joe. My older brother was into the same cartoons you were!! I got countless GI Joe and Masters of the Universe toys as hand-me-downs growing up!!

I was in the Ninja Turtles generation.

Here is the issue though. If you checked out transformers, there are numerous story lines. many of which have no link at all. So it is kinda impossible to mimic any one of them as someone is always going to be upset cause it was not the one they liked. So there really was not much choice but to re-write it. My only thing is I wish megatron has his arm cannon. I dont give hoot about him being a gun as that was pretty dumb, I mean he goes to a gun and thats it. It takes someone to shoot him AND on top of that, he had to shrink. At least as galvatron he was a mobile artillery platform. I will say that huge gun he "transforms" his arms into in the first one was awesomely cool! If I really want gen1 style stuff, there is always transformers: the movie!  :)

Man, I was bummed when I watched that movie back in the 80s and watching all my favorite Transformers biting the dust one by one....as I clutched the toys in my sweaty little hands, eyes glued to the tv...

Yeah, seeing all the G1 transformers get taken out so easily in the movie was tough, especially with OP gone so early!!

Personally, I never though Megatron being a gun was dumb. That is simply what he was. Perhaps I should have been more critical at 7 years old. I was even upset when I got Megatron for my birthday and it was a tank!! I got over that quickly when I did see the Megatron gun toys. Those looked crappy.

Anyway, I wasn't upset about storylines, expected something along the lines of searching for energon, which is generally what the show was about. They didn't stray much from that.
